ROCK APE PROFILES

Here you'll find a brief rundown on some of the more regular bands to play the ape... chances are one of them will be playing on the night so if it sounds like something you're into come along and check it out!

Wow! its been a while since I've done any updates to this page, as a lot of these bands don't exist any more .... so in the next few days (weeks) we'll try and get it a bit more up to date! if you want your profile up here assist me by sending a piccie or something!

Lachlan from Yeti
YETI

Yeti are a strange entity having existed in one form or another for over 10 years now but only now having just recorded and released a CD. Another of canberra's strange bands to have its origins in the playgrounds of Daramalan College, they feature only a drum and bass as the music background and the strange vocal stylings of ben over the top. It works very well once put together, with leanings towards Primus, with a nod towards the wierder Mike Patton projects as well... over the last year or so, YETI have become a regular thing at the rockape never failing to impress everyone there with their skill and strangeness!
DEMONIKUS

Demonikus along with Shatterwrath are one of the harder working bands around the ape at the moment, displaying a good work ethic which has gained them support slots with many of the larger touring bands like sakkuth and abaddon incarnate and astriaal. If you like your metal heavy in the vein of "Dying Fetus" or maybe "Cannibal Corpse" this would be right up your alley, they have a promo available at their gigs along with tee shirts for sale too. Definatley worth catching live if you can! Check out their website HERE

Tom from Shatterwrath
SHATTERWRATH

Shatterwrath play with a maturity that belies their age. They have impressed many of the old school Rock Apes with their melodic leads and technical guitar passages. Their songs are very well crafted peices with leanings towards maybe "Emporer". These guys too seem to have racked up an impressive collection of sought after support slots such as Dungeon, Sukkuth and many more besides. As yet Shatterwrath have not released any material but hopefully we'll see something soon!

SINDABLOK

Very skillfully combing old skool and more modern styles of metal together Sindablok would have to be the most regular band to play the Rock Ape of late. Thier explosive front man Darryl has to be seen to be believed and very well aided by what would be the one of the tightest drum/bass combo's ever! They cross over well into death metal /punk and even trad metal territory and do it in fine style. Sindablok have been playing out of state a bit lately in a bid to boost their profile even further.

Jamie from P.C.
PLANETS COLLIDE

Planets collide draw influences from almost all types of rock metal and combine them into a very heavy and melodic unit. Another band that can play almost any type of gig, PC can appeal to almost anyone. Singer Jamie has a very powerful and melodic voice with monster stage presence. They have one mini-album out now at the moment which showcases their earlier material and its pretty bloody good too! If you like "Tool", "Alice in Chains" or "Pantera" this will rock your world! They have their own website which you can check out HERE
BULLDOG SPIRIT

Though only a new band, the members have been gracing the stages of rockape in other outfits such as Pride of none and the like, and are already considered regulars at the ape! This is like a newer version of Oi punk and its bloody excellent! Their shows are always energetic and never fail to please the punters. You can check out the offical Bulldog Spirt site HERE

Adam goes orf at the Ape!
AGENT OF VEGA

Another of the more regular bands to play the ape this was the first psychedelic band to play here, they have some very Grooooveeeyyyy way spaced out tunes (man!) and an amazing visual backing to boot. For lack of anything to describe it as, "70's Acid Rock" would be the only term that comes to mind. Some very spun out vocals in this band courtesy of front girl Sapphie, over all very entertaining. This is one band that seems to be able to cross the genres very well impressing both the die hard punks and death metal crowds while playing music that many of the punters attending had never heard before. Not a bad acheivement! Definately worth checking out if you like Hawkwind!

GAUSS

This is one of the newest metal bands in Canberra. They sound really cool in a metallica kind of way and with more accessable vocals than many of the death metal bands around town they can appeal to a lot of people not just the die hard metal heads!

4 DEAD 2 WOUNDED

One of the better known newer style of metal bands these guys are very heavy with dropped tuning guitar chords that chug very hard!Their stage show is very energetic and never boring ... Im not familiar with much of this kind of stuff so im not sure what it reminds me of bands like "Hatebreed", very cool and very loud! Every show these guys put on gets heavier and heavier, I hope they don't explode!

THE VEE BEES

The Vee Bees are one of the coolest bands around at the moment, they combine elements of punk and good old fashion pub rock to make something absolutely magic! Every time I see these guys they inspire me to drink myself stupid. Though I can only vaguely remember seeing them live, I know I've been there for at least five of their gigs! I have no idea what they did, but I do know I have had a lot of fun (possibly too much fun...) each time they played and thats what counts isn't it? However, the CD they put out has also been reviewed here and it is not something anyone will forget.

BACK TO MAIN
MYTILE VEY LORTH

Very melodic and doomy black metal. Excellent riffage that can only come from deepest darkest Belconnen. What makes this band unique is the keyboards provided by 'Nads' and the female vocals courtesy of Lily. The songs are always heavy with heaps of blast beats and double kick as well as steve's deep death metal vocals acting as a counterpoint to Lily's higher vocals. Mytile have recorded a really cool disc see the "reviews" section and have started work on their website which you can check out HERE
