ATOMIZER - TYRUS: DOOM WAR OF THE ARMOURED ANGEL

This was a good idea for an EP release, 3 covers of classic Australian metal that for the most part would have slipped under the radars of the current crop of metalheads doing the rounds. This EP is a limited edition 7 inch vinyl pressing (a novelty in itself these days), and made even more worth getting for the fact that there were only 500 of them pressed up! On the first side of this slab we have the boys doing an Armoured Angel cover, while most of us would know who AA were, the song they chose to cover, Thy Blood Eterne never got released as the line up of the time split up half way through the recording, but Jason (Atomizers singer) managed to score a copy of this and adding Atomizer's own touches did a very good job of bringing this obscure gem to life again. This was the higlight for me.

On the other side we have other two more songs, while they are cool, they don't mean that much to me as I never heard the band "War" before, and only vaguely remember the band "Tyrus" who later became "Hobbs Angel of Death". All in all, a bit before my time, so I don't have anything to refernce the songs to, but they are cool songs in their own right, and well done in that raw Atomizer style. Maybe I should go out and see if I can track down some of this stuff?

Over all this serves as a cool introduction to the mid eighties thrash scene in Australia that spawned hundreds of death metal bands both here and overseas who would follow in the dark shadows created by these early pioneers. Hopefully this will rouse some interest overseas in Australian metal? Who knows only time will tell. As far as sparking some interest in me, it worked!
