I'm a long time fan since I herd your vibraphone sound on Mike Oldfield's incantations. I remember very well the concert in Boston back in the 80's on the Five mile out tour. I was there. Hope to hear more from you, I'm still trying hard to get some of your albums, specially the Gong Live. Saludos Sandro |
Oliver Gallas - 10/21/00 17:04:20 My Email:oliver.gallas@home.se Country: Sweden | Comments: Bonjour Pierre, I just listened through my Tribute CD's and found myself replaying your drum solo on the track "Boogieman" on the record "Tribute Live" over and over again. Everytime I listen to it I hear some new beats in the background. It's amazing how one man can cre te all those rythms by himself and make it sound so great. Anyhow, I thought I'd try and search for you on the net and found your site. Now I'm on my way to the music store to see if I can find any of the records in your discography. Which ones would you uggest if I like the sound of Tribute? Best regards /Oliver |

I suppose my favorite is Downwind though all the l.p.'s were classics to me. My 18 year old son, who is a sax major at Furman univ. in Greenville,S.C. came home one day and asked me "dad, did ou ever listen to a band called Gong back in the 70's?" I said "son, don't you ever listen to me? I've been talking about them ever since you were old enough to understand rock and roll!" He told me his music teacher had played Cat in Clark's shoes that ay!I knew I liked that teacher. Anyway, drop me a line sometime! |

Tom Hawley - 09/05/00 06:02:09 My URL:http://www.kvbc.com/traffic My Email:thawley@kvbc.com Country: USA | Comments: Too many high points to mention. Only low point: Finding out on the web that Gong was touring with Pierre, and heading to San Juan Capistrano last year...only to find a replacement drummer. :( Still a good concert, though. :) One of the most amazing musical moments on PMG albums: Compare "Exotic" on Second Wind, and on Full Circle Live 1988. The former relies heavily on a conga contribution (presumably by Simon Pomara). How can you do the tune without the congas? Pierre do s an amazing job of keeping the basic beat with the high hat, while beating out a continuously inventive and precise rhythm on the toms. Wonderful creativity. Tom |
vernon carroll - 09/03/00 22:27:06 My Email:vernoncarroll@hotmail.com Country: USA | Comments: Hey Pierre, Just thought I would drop you a line from an old PHP from London, now exiled in Greenbrier, Arkansas, US of A. I caught your Gong show up in Camden Town I think it was, just before I moved to the states. I have to say, having last seen Daevid, yourself and all the other dear Pixies in 1975 it was a phenominal experience that I shall never forget. I hope to catch the latest incarnation of El Alien's baby over here sometime, but above all hope I get to see you and the rest of the Radio Gnome band again before I pass on . I'm only 41, so hopefully my dream will be realised one of these days. I have been an avid Gong man since I first saw you guys at the free festival in Hyde Park. Was that in 1973? The Hammersmith Palais shows and Penzance Winter gardens were great too. I wouldn"t want to upset a great drummer like Pip, but here's one Gnome who thinks you have been the best in the business for many moons. Keep it up mate! Must fly, we have a thunder storm moving in. Always greatful for great memories, Vernon Carroll |

Only two of the drummers I've played with over the years are familiar with your work, but all of them have heard of you by the time i've finished with 'em! Being a Bassist I use your playing with Mike Howlett as an example of a cracking rhythym section to others that haven't experienced your playing in Gong yet. Those recordings still sound great today.
