The Drummer Boy
By
Neil Anthony
The drummer boy banged on his drum for more than forty years
From Burntisland, all around the globe
Admired by his peers
He started as a kilted one, then on to rock and roll
The drummer boy banged on his drum until the banging took its toll
The drummer boy led his band from Dunfermline to MTV
He was a "Bad Bad Boy" and "Loud and Proud"
But aye the same tae me
He made it big, but he didn't change, he kept both feet on the
ground
The drummer boy always had time for me, when he brought his band
to town
The drummer boy hooked up with me about a month ago
Both of us many miles from home
He was in Dallas for a show
We hugged, we laughed, we drank and joked just like we always do
The drummer boy not knowing his time was nearly through
The drummer boy has stopped drumming now but his beat will carry
on
He'll be in our hearts forever
We're so sad now you've gone
Well, here's to you, drummer boy, until the next time we meet
The drummer boy, my cousin, Darrell Anthony Sweet
