They had made it across the Oklahoma border and pulled off to fuel the cars as Tay had indicated. "Zac how's sis?" Chele asked when Jessy remained in the car. "Not so good. She's getting quieter and quieter. Almost down to just nodding yes or no. Man Chele I don't think she's ready for this. I hate to push her she's been through so much." Zac said. "You love her so much. Zac I trust you, do what you think is best for her." Chele said hugging him then heading to Jessy. "Hey sis." Chele said sliding into the driver seat. "Hey big sis." Jessy mumbled. "You okay sis?" Chele asked. "Don't know. I, I, oh I just don't know. Sis it still hurts so much, I don't know if I can do this and Zac is so sure I can just because he's by me. What if I disappoint him. I've already hurt him more than I can bare. I just don't know if I'm strong enough." Jessy cried. "Aw sis don't cry." Chele said hugging her looking in the side view mirror to see Zac watching what was happening. "Sis Zac loves you more than I thought possible, just tell him how you feel, trust him. He'll do right by you Jessy I just know he will. I trust him, even with my lil sis's heart." Chele said. "Yeah you're probably right. I think I'll go tell him." Jessy said wiping her eyes and heading to Zac as Chele headed back to Taylor. "So how is she?" Taylor asked as Chele wrapped herself around him laying her head on his chest and crying. "That bad eh?" Taylor said as Chele shook her head yes. "Zac loves her baby, he'll take care of her." Taylor said kissing the top of her head. "Come on in with me." he asked as he fiished pumping the gas. "Yeah sure." Chele said glancing over at Zac and Jessy. "You okay hun?" Zac asked as she approached. "Honestly Zac I don't know. I, I don't know if I can do this." Jessy said rushing to his arms placing her head to his chest as the tears started again. "Don't cry babe. Somehow we'll make it through this. You know I love you and I'll do anything for you. So somehow we'll make it." Zac said holding her tight. "Want me to get it, I'm headed in." Taylor asked. "Yeah pump 3" Zac said holding Jessy. "Babe are you just not ready to face Ken yet?" Zac asked. "Zac I can face you, Chele, Tay, Ike and I don't know if I'm ready for anybody else yet." Jessy said. "Babe how about Grampa. Do you think you could face him? I'm sure he'd let you stay, he already said so remember." Zac said. "Grampa huh? Zac?" Jessy asked. "What babe?" he asked as he finished pumping the gas putting the nozzle back. "Zac can you stay with me?" Jessy asked fighting the next wave of tears. "Sure babe if that's what it takes." Zac said. "Zac why do you love me so? I'm nothing but trouble." Jessy said. "God Jessy how can you feel that way. You've done nothing babe. Well maybe you're trying to survive is what you think of as being trouble." Zac said. "Don't every stop please. I'll do anything just don't stop loving me?" Jessy pleaded. "Forever and a day Jessy, that's how long I'll love you." Zac said kissing her deeply and holding her tight. He walked her to the front of the car opening the door, helping her into the seat. Looking at her sitting there so confused and hurt, he sat on the floor facing her, laying his head in her lap as tears began to flow down his cheeks. "Oh Zac, please don't cry, honey this isn't your fault. You didn't hurt me this way, Daddy did. Zac please." Jessy pleaded caressing his hair. "I should have stood up to him and protected you. How can you say this isn't my fault." Zac argued. "Zac stop beating yourself up over something you can't change. How would you know I'd react that way, you know running," Jessy said. "That's no excuse." Zac said. "You stop talking about my fiance that way or I'll kick your sorry ass." Jessy said surprising him as he rose up from her lap looking at her and she smiled that smile of hers as her eyes danced. "I love you." Zac said. "I know you do, I just needed to make sure you remembered." Jessy said touching his wiping the remaining tear away with her thumb. "Thanks I guess I forgot for a minute there." Zac said as Chele and Tay arrived with a couple of Dr Peppers for them. "Chele I can't face Daddy yet. I'm still so angry and hurt I'm afraid I'll say something that will hurt Momma so." Jessy said closing her eyes as the tears overflowed and she clenched her jaw. "Jessy stop keeping it in. I'm here for you. Just let me." Zac asked hugging her. "Sis I'm taking her to Grampa's. She said she'd try and face him. He already invited her to stay no questions asked. I figure that's what she needs. I'm staying with her until I know she's okay. Can you stay with her while I go call and let them know not to expect her." Zac asked and headed away from her to make the call. "Kendall residence." Sam answered. "Sam it's me Zac. I need to talk to Ken or Momma." Zac asked. "Son where are you. Are you okay? Is she still with you?" Ken panicked. "Jessy is with me and will always be with me. Nobody will come between us again not even you. Ken she can't face you yet, she's afraid her feelings towards you will destroy her mother and she won't do that." Zac paused waiting for his reaction. "I understand Zac. I'm just grateful she trusts you. Thank you son. Just take care of her for us?" Ken asked. "I will. We'll be at Grampa's but don't come until you're invited or she'll just run." Zac explained and dialed his parents and explained to them. "Zac, I'll call Daddy and let him know you're coming. It's a good thing you're taking her there. It's just where she needs to be." Diana said. Zac made his way back to the car and Jessy. "It's set. Can you two bring us some clothes tomorrow when you can make time?" Zac asked. "Sure I can't wait to see Grampa again." Chele said and they loaded up and headed the rest of the way as always playing leap frog until Zac passed and they waved as they turned off and headed to Grampa's.
