Look At You

Part Nine

"Zoe, is that all the higher you can bounce?" Ken asked. "Stop egging her on. You're terrible" Barbie complained to the bouncing. "Man I regret staying up so late I think. I don't feel well. Hey I forgot to get dressed for bed. No I remember getting dressed for bed. Okay where's my jammies. I came into the bed with jammies on." Barbie said. "You don't remember the girls raiding the frig? But you decided you'd wait for them in here. With me. Ring any bells?" Ken said. "Oh yeah the 3am feeding. Boy were you hungry." she said rolling over to kiss him. "Mom you up?" came a knock at the door. "Come in" Barbie called. "Morning, hey Zoe. Wow you look especially beautiful Mome."Chele said. "Oh no Ken, this is going to be expensive, I'm beautiful already in the conversation" she said scooting into him, making room for Chele. "I just wondered what to make for breakfast." Chele said laying down. "Baby you're up early after staying up late, after walking out on Taylor Hanson. Don't you see something wrong with this picture?" Barbie asked playing with her hair as Ken hugged his wife. "Maybe she just decided to put the past where it belongs, in the past." Ken said. "If it were only so simple. If you don't deal with it, it will keep coming back at you." Barbie said. "Mom I don't want to talk about it, I only want to know what to make for breakfast." Chele said. "There's a package of sausage in the meat drawer, you get that going and I'll be down. Baby could miss Zoe go with you?" Barbie asked. "Hey Zoe let's go. Want a piggy back ride?" Chele asked and the two were off. Barbie and Ken joined them in the kitchen, "Mom I don't find any clothes for Zoe, we're heading to get some be right back." Chele said heading out the patio to the yard next door, dancing and twirling Zoe, rapping on the patio door, before entering. "Hey Hansons, we are without clothes here. We smell like my baby sister and we're wearing her shirt." Chele said. "I'll take her Chele" Diana said. "No that's fine, we're having a blast. Which way to her room?" Chele asked and Zoe pointed to the stairs. "We'll be back" Chele said following Zoe's finger, dropping her on her bed and Zoe starts bouncing. "What's up with the bouncing? Mom's bed, now your bed. Let's see her underwear, shorts, socks, shirt. Let's get you dressed Zoe. Oh, morning Taylor." Chele said turning back from the dresser. "Come here Zoe" Chele said holding her panties, then her shorts for her to step into. Chele gathered up Jessy's shirt to remove, but Zoe refused. "Me Jessy." Zoe said. "I know Jessy gave it to you baby, but it's for sleeping in, your night time shirt, not your daytime shirt." Chele said and Zoe put up her arms. Chele removed the shirt and put on Zoe's. "Here we'll put your night time Jessy shirt in your drawer right here. Okay?" Chele asked. "I can't believe this, Zoe doesn't like strangers." Taylor said. "I'm not strange, I'm weird." Chele said as Zoe climbed back on, and they were off, back down the stairs and explaining to Mom and Dad we were hanging out next door, "If you need me, you know where I'm at." Chele said Zoe waving. "Chele wait, please?" Taylor called. "I'm sorry, I made you sad Chele. It's not what I meant. I didn't mean to make you cry." Taylor said. "Taylor you didn't, it was already there, but I had managed to bury it until last night. Now I'm trying hard to ignore it until it's buried and this isn't helping. I'm sorry." Chele said turning away from him. "Chele let me hold you, please, I'll make it all better. Just let me." Taylor pleaded, touching her hand, Chele looked at their hands, her heart ached for him to hold her, "Maybe a hug would be nice." Chele said. "One hug coming up." Taylor said reaching around Chele. "Hey sis, she's something special isn't she?" he said kissing the top of Chele's head, then his sister. "Taylor do me a favor? Take your sister, she's a big girl and killing my back." Chele asked and he immediately lifted Zoe onto his shoulders. "Better?" he asked rubbing Chele's back. "Heaven. Thanks Tay." Chele said laying her head on his chest. "Chele look a lumber truck." Taylor said and she looked up. "Cool let's go tell Mome and Daddy." Chele said leading him by the hand to the kitchen. "Mome lumber truck is here, where's Daddy." Chele asked. "Right here baby, I saw it from upstairs. Let's go see what's up." Ken said leading them outside and they watched it being unloaded. "Breakfast" Barbie called out and they made their way back into the house "Taylor did you eat yet?" Chele asked. "No not yet" he answered. "Join us then." Chele asked. He sat beside her at the table, holding her hand when she'd let him. After breakfast they decided to swim while Ken headed to work. "Taylor wait I'm coming, to make sure you invite them." Chele said racing after him. He watched her racing to him and swept her up in his arms, twirled her as he kissed her. "What was that for?" Chele asked. "Cuz I wanted to." Taylor said "Cuz?" Chele said. "Yeah cuz." Taylor said. "Nice cuz kisser." Chele smiled. "Not bad yourself." Taylor said opening the door and headed to get his suit on as Chele invited the rest of the family. "Not until school work is done." Diana answered for them. "Chele when Zac finally wakes, would you remind him he has school work please?" Diana asked. "Sure Mommy H." Chele answered as Isaac and Taylor returned and they headed to the pool. "I'm out numbered" Chele complained as everyone canon balled her and she got out sitting in a lounge chair. When Barbie, Zoe, and Kristina arrived they all canon balled Isaac and Taylor. "That's it. Barely moved the water." Taylor teased. "You're not nice" Chele pouted, adding, "I tried so hard too" Chele said looking sad. "Oh Chele I was just teasing. Please don't be sad. I can't stand to see you sad." Taylor said wrapping his arms around her pulling her close, gazing into her warm brown eyes. "Chele" he said pressing his lips to hers. "Cuz?" Chele asked as the kiss ended. "No that was my make her smile special. I see it worked." Taylor beamed as Chele smiled. "Your fixer upper special huh?" Chele asked. "You could say that." Taylor said. "I just did." Chele laughed. "I love to hear you laugh, it makes me feel happy all over." Taylor said smiling, pulling her to him and kissing her again deeply. "Umm Taylor I don't think you should say the name of that one outloud. There are children present." Chele whispered, gazing into his blue eyes. "Hey Zac." Taylor said. "Hey little bro. How'd you sleep when we finally left you alone?" Chele asked. "Lousy. You two sure are hard on a fella." Zac teased. "Oh but Zac you were so wonderful." Kristina said swimming to the side of the pool where Zac was sitting, dangling his feet. "Hungry Zac, I'll fix you breakfast" Barbie asked. "No thanks Mom, I'll just wait until lunch, something about eating at 3am." Zac said shaking his head. "So when did you finally get to sleep?" Chele asked. "Jessy put me to bed about 6a" Zac smiled. "Way to go sis!" Chele said. "Oh Chele" Zac complained. "She really sings good, I think she ought to come with us and sing." Zac said. "Jessy on stage singing with you instead of in the audience screaming at you. I don't know?" Barbie said laughing. "Hey lil bro, Mommy said to remind you, school. I'm sorry she made me do it." Chele said laughing. "See you later. Have a nice first day at work Sis." Zac said. "Thanks again Zac" Chele said smiling. "Hey no problem, what are brothers for huh?" Zac said. " Bye Zac." Kristina said. "Bye sisters." Zac said headed across the backyards looking at the piles of lumber. "Hey Mom when they do that?" Zac asked. "Just a little while ago hun." Barbie hollered as Zac waved entering the house. "So you kept my brother up late?" Tayor asked. "I refuse to answer that on the grounds that it may get me in a lot of hot water. My Mom's listening." Chele laughed dunking him under and smiling at Mome. "What's the matter Mom you don't look well. I mean you look great, but you look like you're going to heave chunks." Chele asked. "Must be coming down with something. Yuck I hate being sick." Barbie complained. "So do we. Our lives come crashing to a halt." Nick complained. "You young man get yourself a job, I can't have you hanging around all the time. You to Ben. Go get a job or I'll find you one. There's got to be a farm around here with shit to pitch." Barbie said laying in a lounge chair. "Well I ain't pitching shit again. I'm out of here to find work before she finds it for me." Nick said heading to the house. "Wait for me." Ben said. "Josh, Sam how old are you again?" Barbie asked. "We don't drive Mom." Josh laughed. "You're safe then. When will that be?" she laughed, adding, "Hey baby don't you think you could get them jobs where you work. Dress them up all freaky." "Yeah Sis, tattoo here and here, a mohawk die it blue, pierce here and here." Sam said. "Oh my baby. Be still my heart. Too late, it broke." Barbie laughed. "Jessy you say, go for it, knock yourself out. Me I get, My baby." Sam complained. "Well then Samuel, Go for it, Knock yourself out, young man." Barbie said glaring right at him. "Well go for it." she added. "No thank you Mom. Who'd want to dress that way?" Sam asked diving under. "Whoa wouldn't want to get in that cross fire." Taylor whispered. "Say what Taylor?" Barbie asked. "Nothing Mom. Nothing at all." Taylor answered. "I should think not." she said laying back down as Taylor prayed looking to the sky. "I see that young man." Barbie said. "How her head's under a towel?" Taylor whispered. "She's better than Mom." Isaac added. "Then I'll just have to teach her." Barbie said and they all burst out laughing. "What's so funny?" Diana asked heading for a chair next to Barbie. "Nothing Mom don't believe a word she says." Taylor laughed. "She's having a bad day Mom." Isaac said. "Sleep depravation they call it Diana. I'm sure you remember. When I finally got them sleeping through the night around six months I didn't know they'd try it again eighteen years later." Barbie complained. "Oh baby, it's eleven. You wanted to know." Barbie said. "Thanks Mom. I have to get ready for work. See you guys, don't have too much fun without me." Chele said. "I'll walk you home." Taylor said. "Dude, I am home. Finally." Chele said defiantly. "Amen to that. Speaking of Amen. I need a good church, one that won't bore me to sleep. You got one of those out here." Barbie said as Zac, Jessie, Avie and Mackie showed up to swim. "School is done so soon. Man you guys have it easy. The answer is no, N O. How else you going to learn to deal with jerks, nerds, boring people, unfair practices and policies. authority figures who don't know their own ass from a hole in the ground. Not from me, so I send you to public school, unless you'd rather go to Military school? Looked into, got a good one fifteen miles south of here boys." Barbie said, adding, "I'm sure I could convince Ken it would be in our best interest." "Can't wait nine more weeks and school starts Sam." Josh said. "Diana come inside, I want to show you something." Barbie said. "You okay?" Diana asked. "Who knows." Barbie said shaking her head no. "Look what your Zac did. I came in expecting to make both beds, Zoe got up on her own and found Jessy in the kitchen." Barbie said. "His bed at home is still unmade and he didn't sleep in it last night. Like I said, Jessy is so good for him." Diana said. "Wish I could say the same about your Taylor. That's not fair. He's got his hands full with my Chele. Hell I have my hands full with my Chele. We talked to 2am I think it was when Ken rescued me, suggesting they raid the fridge. They woke up your Zac. Poor baby. Don't know what happen but my two older girls love him dearly now. Strong connection between them." Barbie said leading her back to the sun. "Kristina, Isaac, Taylor you''re in charge of lunch. They way I feel, I'd throw a can of beans and a can opener at you and say enjoy. Josh out of the pool, you're on lifeguard duty, Diana and I are relaxing." Barbie ordered and laid back to rest as the contractor arrived. "Zac hun be a dear and go see if he needs anything?" Barbie asked. "Sure Mom." Zac said drying, putting on shirt and shoes and headed out back. "My little man" Barbie said. "No that's my little man." Diana reminded. "We'll wait and see, she is my daughter you know." Barbie laughed. "I like sharing children with you. I'm glad Ken married you." Diana said. "Me too Diana, me too." Barbie said.
