Jen asked, adding, "Smells good." "Thanks. Do you think you could get Ike to run you to the store, I need wraps. I thought I had some but I can't find them. Why don't you take a look. Zac moved everything making room for the pops." Jessy asked returning to the cutting board chopping onions, making her eyes run. "Jessy don't cry I'm sure Ike will get them." Jen laughed. "You butt" she said loading them into a fry pan and walking to the sink. "Stir those for me?" Jessy asked putting a cold rag to her eyes. "That's not going to be enough. I better start another pan full, those Hanson boys can eat." Jessy said pulling out another fry pan turning on another burner. "Jen slide yours to the back and cover it and put some oil in this one." Jessy asked putting the pan on the front burner. Jessy grabbed more onions and peppers, chopped and added to the new pan. The microwave beeped, Jessy opened and stirred and put it back in setting the timer.When she finished slicing the steak, she added it to the pan, "I can handle it now. Zac put the Nayas in the crisper drawer. Don't ask." Jessy laughed moving to a cupboard and pulling out the Iced Tea maker and filled it and turned it on. She was opening cupboards looking for a pitcher. "I give up. If you were left handed Zac and was handed a pitcher to put away, where would you put it?" Jessy asked. Jessy said as the microwave beeped. "Zac that's the cheese. Can you pour it over the chips." Jessy asked grabbing a dishes of black olives,onion, and pepper garnish and heading to Zac. As he poured, Jessy garnished then added another layer of chips and repeated the process. "Ike, Ash now the covered frypans, one on each end of the table. Jen can you turn everything off. Zac you can take those to the table, please. Chele that pile of serving spoons and Tay there are two small bowls of salsa in the fridge, blue and red bowls, I think. Jessy poured the remaining cheese into two small pitchers. "Everybody grab what the want to drink and let's eat." Jessy said turning almost into Tay. "Jesus I'm sorry did I spill any it's hot." Jessy said. "Put them down a minute, please." he asked and she placed them on the counter and Chele quickly picked them up and took them to the table. "What you said's been eating at me. You have to know that I love Chele as much as Zac loves you. Even though my behavior hasn't shown it, please know that I love her more than anything just like Zac loves you. Us being 16 is no excuse for what we did. We do need to grow up. I don't know what I was thinking, I knew you were here. I dissed her by not keeping it private and I'm sorry." Tay said. "It takes two Tay, it wasn't just you. Chele shared your first with me too and maybe she shouldn't. I know were Sisters and we've always shared everything, but this is different. I wish I had all the answers before these things happened instead of scrambling to deal with it all after." Jessy said putting her arm around him and they headed to dinner. Tay walked Jessy to Zac kissed her on the head and headed to the other side. They had a great time, everyone joked, the tension quickly died. Jessy got up to answer the phone, "Hello. Hey Daddy what's wrong. Okay I'll be right there. Bye. Ike you have to drive me to your house Mackie fell out of his tree house. They don't think anything's broken but they're taking him in to have him checked out. I have to watch the girls." Jessy said. "Jen give me what you're wearing." Jessy asked and Jen pulled off as Jessy put on. "Here Chele's sandals. "I'll come with you." Zac said. "No you guys finish eating. Then you can come over okay?" Jessy asked. "Call us?" Chele said as Ike grabbed Jessy hand "Come on." They made it in record time. "Hey did I hear right. You tried to fly." Jessy asked Mackie. "Me tripped on the ladder." Mackie said. "Wow I'd be screaming if it was me. You must be awfully brave. Does it hurt anywhere?" Jessy asked. Mackie motioned for her to come closer. Jessy leaned in and he whispered. "I fell on my butt. It hurts real bad." "Oh sweetie don't lay on it then. Here is this better?" Jessy asked rolling him to his side and putting a pillow by his butt. "You know I fell off my horse one summer. I was being smart, riding bareback and shouldn't have been because Lady was going to have a foal and I couldn't get my knees in for a hold. She took off, got spooked and I went straight down on the pavement. I cracked my tail bone. Had to tuff it out, nothing the Doctor could do except tell me I should have been more careful. I didn't get to ride horses all summer and carried a pillow with me everywhere. Talk about embarassing. I hope you feel better. When you get back home, I'll read you your favorite story. Hey Mackie, promise me you'll tell the Doctor everything that hurts, even if it doesn't hurt a lot because if you don't talk to him or her they can't help you get better. Okay? she asked stroking his head. "Okay Jessy I'll say my butt hurts just for you. Daddy my butt hurt. Ike my butt hurts. Mommy my butt hurts." Mackie laughed as Dad picked him up and headed out. "Hey Jessy did I tell you my butt hurts." Mackie laughed. "See you soon butt boy." Jessy laughed back. "Thanks for bringing me, head back before they destroy the place." Jessy asked picking up Zoe. "You sure you'll be okay, I can stay. " Ike said. "I'm sure. Have Zac bring me some under clothes this is uncomfortable. My shorts are causing wedgies." Jessy said. "More than I wanted to know." Ike shook his head. "It's true." Jessy said turning around "See" she said. "God girl, how can Zac be so strong." Ike said. "I don't know. He sure is special and I'm so lucky that of all the girls in the world he's met and seen, he picked me." Jessy said putting an arm around Ike and hugging him as they walked to the door. "Go. I'm sure we'll be fine. So will Mackie. Bye." Jessy said and waved as he drove off. About an hour later Daddy called from the hospital, small hairline fracture on his tail bone. They'd be home in probably an hour. Jessy called her house. "Zac your Dad called. He has a small hairline fracture on his tailbone they'll be home in another hour. Zac I think I'll spend the night here. Mackie's going to be miserable for a day or two. I could help Mom cope with the demands of a sick male child. They can be such babies." Jessy said. "We are not." Zac said. "Right. I'll remember that the first time you get sick. Anyway would you get my jammers and something to wear to church and something for after and bring it when you come home." Jessy asked. Zac appeared a half hour later, Without Jessy he was a seventh wheel. "Besides I'd rather be with you anytime." Zac whispered and kissed her. Mom and Dad returned with a sticker ladened Mackie. "Jessy thanks for staying without being asked. I was going to, and this way I don't feel I'm imposing." Mom said. "Mom I love Mackie too. This is where I belong." "You're right there." Daddy said hugging her. "Don't you agree Zac?" "Not quite." Zac said shocking them all until he pulled Jessy to him "This, is where she belongs." Zac declared with Jessy at his side.
