"To say the truth, reason and love keep little company together now-a-days."
-Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act III Scene i
I found beauty when I saw her
She gazed into my eyes
We talked together, we laughed together
I found where heaven lies
In her eyes I saw innocence,
Beauty, love, and cheer
But was it real? Or a disguise
To shroud her pain and fear?
I came to say I loved her...
She found little to say
Behind her eyes hid secrets
Kept in solitude and dismay
The secrets leapt from my love's eyes!
Dark and sad they were
I was brave, but they were strong
What could I say to her?
I used my courage, my love and madness
And tried to keep along
But my love, what of her?
Could she be as strong?
The answer came: it could not be
She found herself afraid
She reasoned aaway any strenth she had
And so a tragedy she played
For with too much reason and too much caution
One misses out on life
So with my love, she could not end
Her loneliness and strife
Evils past and present devoured her
They made flightless this dove
And so it was, and came to pass
Reason destroyed my love
