Tom Petty (and occasionally the Heartbreakers!)
Tom Petty.. Definately one of my favorite musicians. I don't know too much about him, other than the fact that you cannot see him live and not worship him! But I'll attempt to be somewhat informative here. Tom's been with us since 1950, October 20th, to be precise. Like most, he grew up, and like many, got a band. Unlike most, they rocked right from the start. "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" was released in 1976, and since then, they've released thirteen albums, most recently, Echo, for which they're currently touring.
Tom had two solo albums, minus the Heartbreakers, those being 1994's 'Wildflowers', and 1989's 'Full Moon Fever'. I own Wildflowers, I can guarentee to you that it is an amazing album. Tom Petty is a true rock musician, always true to the genre, and damn, does he ever rock. "rock can't die. Its design is flawless. It's based on a dream that cannot die." Tom Petty, from a recent interview with Rolling Stone. |

The Heartbreakers are: Mike Campbell - A rare breed of musician, indisputably one of the most talented guitarists in existance. He's co-produced many of the Heartbreaker's albums, and written or co-written songs for various artists. Benmont Tench - 'recognized as one of rock's most accomplished keyboardists' "he illuminates Petty's songs with a softer lighting, revealing yet never intrusive" Howie Epstein - bassist for the Heartbreakers, known for his music, backing vocals, and high harmonies with Tom. |
