Look at this thing !! Had to go. The old center console had a few cracks in it, the center armrest was dried out, split, AND it wouldn't open/close properly. Lord only knows where that shift knob came from, and the boot cover was dried out and torn in different places. A few of the dummy plates were missing, and someone had crammed an old piece of shit cassette deck in the console that didn't even work !!! The only thing coming out of the speakers was static.
No problem. Again, I posted a want ad on ZCAR.COM, and I had a new (well, used, but in great shape) console on the way. MUCH cheaper than buying one brand new, that's for sure.
First things first. The old console had to come out. Look at the big open void that I had. No problem. Relief is on the way. BTW, in case you're wondering, no, that is not the original factory upholstery job. Someone decided to redo the carpet. Don't worry, that's on my list as well. Sooner or later I am going to track down some orginal looking fabric. Whoever recarpeted the interior of this thing did an AWFUL job.
DONE !! All the pieces have now come together. New console has been installed. No cracks, no missing dummy plates, no torn center armrest. Also had a Pioneer CD player installed along with a set of Pioneer 120 watt speakers (obviously you can't see them, but they are resting where the original speakers were taken out of, and covered back up by the factory paneling). Found a new shift knob with a Z emblem and a new shift boot cover in the Motorsport Auto catalog. If you look on the driver's side of the console, you will notice that I have been able to salvage the manual operation of my factory power antenna !!
On to the next project...
