Learn More About Them

Bryan

Bryan is Westlife's wild child - perhaps what you might call the Robbie of the band. The first time Bryan got drunk, he was sick everywhere after drinking "cider and all sorts". The last time he showed his bum in public was in Spain two years ago after his mates "stripped me butt-naked and chucked me out of the door!".

He dresses up "like a spiv" when he goes out and once destroyed a wardrobe door in a hotel when wrestling with the other boys - "but we got away with it!"

He used to be "plenty fat" and reckons that the stupidest thing he's ever said was that he'd never be in a boy band. He reckons he's calmed down since his antics on the Smash Hits tour - in fact he's completely off the booze. "It doesn't interest me anymore" he says.

Deep down he's just a........ "Big kid although I have grown up a lot in the past year".

Kian

Kian is the mischevious element of the band. "I'm the cheeky one", he says helpfully. "I'm not complaining if people want to call me sexy." He loves his aftershave and his favourites are Jean-Paul Gaultier, Polo Sport and Joop - "Anything that will make a girl come and ask me 'what's that?' I'm not shy." He's obsessed with clothes and lays his outfits on his bed before he goes out. "If I walk out of the door not feeling good, I go back and get changed."

Kian's also a bit of a romeo. "I've been out with about 30 girls, but I've only had three serious relationships." At the moment, he is single, but he doesn't want to stay that way for long. "I'd love to have a girlfriend because it gets very lonely being away from home. I think about girls every minute of the day". He used to compete with Bryan for the laydees, "but now we team up - like Batman and Robin!".

Deep down he's just a........ "Big softie".

Mark

Mark is definately the shyest member of Westlife - unless he's singing. "Once I get to know somebody I'm all right and if I'm up on stage singing, it's a lot lot easier," he whispers. "I'm not quiet with the other guys. Bryan and Kian are the loudest in the band, I have to tell them to be quiet a lot. But I don't get pushed around - I give as good as I get."

Mark's definately a home loving type and nips back whenever he can. "I talk to my parents on the phone every day," he says. "I'm very close to everybody back home in Sligo. The last person I said 'I Love you' to was my Mother."

He's also a bit frightened about being famous! "It's a bit scary," he says softly, "but I'm ready for whatever happens."

Deep down he's just a........ "Big softie with a big heart".

Nicky

Nicky used to be a goalkeeper for Leeds Utd. His two big idols were former Leeds winger Lee Sharpe and Ronan Keating, "so I've actually got to work with both my idols!" He prefers being a pop star with Westlife because "football wasn't really what I wanted. This is everything I ever wanted."

He goes out with the Prime Minister of Ireland's daughter. "When I first saw Georgina, I went back home to me ma and said, 'I saw the girl for me!' But me mate asked her out for me and she said no. Then a year later, he asked her again and she said yes! If we ever split, I'll get Ronan to ask her out for me. She'd never say no to him!" The coward.

Nicky is like Westlife's co-manager, Ronan Keating. "We'd love to be as successful as Boyzone, and be on the front cover of Smash Hits. If I could be as huge as Ronan, that'd be great! I don't think that what happened with Boyzone - where two members got more attention than the rest - will happen with us. There will always be five of us.

Deep down he's just a........ "Genuine, normal person".

Shane

Shane is a deep and quiet fella who used to write poetry when he was ten "although I was never going to be the next W.B. Yeats." He prays in bed every night, asking that his family, friends and the rest of Westlife are kept safe. He also goes to church every Sunday - "If I miss a week, I feel really bad about it."

Shane takes his job very seriously and once "cracked up for an hour" when he realised that he'd left all his gear for that night's performance at a TV studio. "I thought my life was over," he remembers.

He says he won't get carried away with being a pop star. "We're not the types to think it's all glamour." He believes that "You can succeed in whatever you're happy with - never worry about too much unless you have to." But does he believe in life after love? "Course I do. There's always more fish in the sea."

Deep down he's just a........ "Nice guy".
