Biography:
Clifford Lee Burton was born in 1962, in 1982, he was discovered by MetallicA. He was playing a gig in
a little place in SF called Whiskey a Go-Go. Jaymz and Lars were there. They were sitting around listening
to the band play, and Jaymz heard some great guitar work. As he looked around to see where the masterful playing
was coming from, he realized that it was no guitar that made those sounds, it was the work of Cliff Burton. Jaymz
decided immediately that this bass genious must be in Metallica. Cliff Burton was very stubborn about joining.
He said that the only way that he would join, is if Metallica relocated to San Francisco. At that time in Metallica,
they were having growing difficulties with lead guitarist Dave Mustaine's alcohol problems, and their current bassist
couldn't really play that great, so Metallica gave a Fuck Yeah to moving to SF.
The next 3 years of Metallica were legendary. Metallica made it to the top of the charts finally, and people knew who
Metallica was. The songs were called classics, and the bass work was untouchable. Unfortunately, this fame led to
the down fall of Metallica.
Metallica had become so great, that they had to go on tour. I mean, when you have millions of fans, are you just going
to sit around in a studio and record things, or are you going to give something back to the fans who put you where you
are? Metallica chose to tour. They kicked ass everywhere they played. They were untouchable. They were on a tour
of Europe in 1986.
Following their 'Puppets' tour, Metallica did another tour through Europe. After finishing most of their concerts, they
left to finish 3 concerts in Lund, Oslo, and Stockholm. On their way to play their fourth show in Copenhagen, a great
tragedy occured, the death of Cliff Burton. The bus was near a small town named Ljungby, and it hit an ice patch and fell
on it's side. At about 5:15 AM, the bus collapsed over. Nobody was majorly injured, except for the bass god, Cliff Burton.
It is said that in the bus, as the bus started to slide off of the road, the beds started to crumble like match boxes. Everyone was
able to get to safety, but as the bus started tipping on it's side, Cliff was lodged up against the wall, and because of the
momentum of the bus, was not able to escape from his bed. Sometime in this whole mess, it is said that about half of Cliff's body
ended up going out the window. When the bus hit the ground, Cliff's body was killed from being pinned between the ground and the bus.
Everyone knew that Cliff was dead, there was no way that he could have lived through it, but they were all hoping that he would start moving
any second now. As the police arrived, they had the bus driver arrested, as they were required to do, and he was released soon after.
When Metallica's manager got there, he said "get Metallica back to the hotel...", and Jaymz responded by saying "Metallica? There is
no Metallica anymore, it's just three guys now. Thus ending the tragic life of Clifford Lee Burton.
