Get It Right by David Harris, 1990

This song was written in 1990 shortly after I moved back East to work for the feds. The vocal on this and on "The Boatland" strike me as very Elton John-esque. My favorite part, though, is definitely the guitar solo. The lyrics have that sort of adolescent angst quality that is probably more appropriate for teenagers, but then it's not supposed to be a serious song or anything.

This recording could probably use a better drum track, but please listen with an open mind. Thanks.

Lyrics: Get it Right

We’re never gonna get it right,
it’s getting very plain to see.
We might as well admit it to ourselves.
Don’t know what changed the way I feel about you.
Maybe it’s the way you spite me all the time because you
can’t make up your mind.

I told you from the very start, you gotta learn to let me be.
You never understood a single word.
I don’t know how I’ll get along without you.
Maybe it’s the worst mistake that I could make
but all I know is I’ve had all that I can take.

Restless wolves surround you,
ready and waiting to pounce.

Guitar solo:

‘Cause I know down deep inside:
there’s a love that waits for me,
somewhere she’s sitting waiting for the day
I’ll come and take her far away.
