The Rolling Stones: Latest News
You'll find here the latest news and pictures related to the Stones. They may be usually posted from other sources on the net, but, as ever possible, they will also be from Barcelona media.
I especially suggest not to miss taking a look at IORR and FLASHPOINT news pages due to an accurate and detailed information.
08/15/98 Finally, after 30 years since they're first attemp, the Stones played in Moscow on August the 11th. Here's a picture of the four Stones in the city and another one of Mick in the middle of his performance during the show.
08/09/98 More images from the concert have been added to this site! Pictures from the press, some others by myself (still some left), plus right here, a shot of Keith at 'El Prat' airport. If some of you know who's the girl in the picture, please tell me, thanks. The Stones, due to a mechanical failure on the plane that had to take them to Paris, had to stay in Barcelona for some more hours. It seems all of them returned to the hotel except for Mick, who is rumoured to have gone dancing at the club 'Luz de gas' until 4 AM.
07/24/98 ”””Impressive!!! 20 of July, 1998. No words can describe what the ones that were at the Montjuic Stadium lived on monday evening. The music, the sound, the energy, the force, the life that those musicians spreaded up on the stage are unique and inimitable. Certainly arriving a bit late, you can now read the complete and exhaustive review of the concert.
07/18/98 I've been to the Estadi Olķmpic today and the skeleton of the stage is already built and also are the sound-mix towers. It looks quite huge though the stadium is quite wide. They were starting to cover the grass with panels. I've taken some pictures, also from one truck (we've seen just one today), and tomorrow I'll be there again. All pictures will be posted in URINET through the following days.
07/18/98 ””2 days to go!! This is is really getting moved!!! Two specials on TV today (Canal 33 offers at 20h the concert "The Stones in the park" and La2 at 20h will center the cultural magazine called "Coninuarą..." on the BTB Stones tour), and on Catalunya Rądio, on the called "Ąrea Reservada" the broadcast of San Diego show (read the review at IORR). Also, Rądio Flashback is programming Stones songs every now and then during the whole weekend. There's also a contest to win tickets for the show.I visited Virgin Megastore today and I can't believe this being the official Stones label, there's no special setup for the forthcoming show. Really boring. There's an article about the current travel of the Stones through the Spanish State (right now I'm llistening to a Tatoo You medley at Rądio Flashback, and now is starting Out of Control) in the nespaper El Periódico. Tomorow there will be full color info on newspaper AVUI Sunday's suplement. Also on AVUI more special pages on Monday.
07/17/98 ””3 days to go!! According to the press 45,000 tickets sold so far. In Malaga scalpers where forced to sell for 2000 ptas ($13). Hothouse Flowers confirmed as support act. Doors open at 18:30h, Hothouse Flowers at 20:30 and Stones at 22h. See two more pictures of this tour from the press: Mick (Nüremberg), Keith/Mick.
07/15/98 ””Just five days to go!! The Stones are now in Malaga (don't forget to check Paul's page for the last info there). The Hothouse Flowers seem to be the support act. Check out often this page for the last info previous to the show. ””FIVE DAYS!!
06/25/98
With the new date (July the 20th) new posters are hanging on the city walls. A great, huge and red tongue on a black background, and big new letters (not the Babylon ones) to reactivate the excitement for the next visit of the boys. We've had three different posters until now (read Sparks Will Fly section for more info).
06/25/98 Rumours about an Internet broadcast of the show in Malaga the 16th of July. Keep tuned for more info.
06/24/98 Couple of days ago appeared on the press that since the date of June the 1st was postponed, about 1000 tickets holders have asked for their money to be returned. The 20th of June was the expiration date for this possibility. Still about 35000 tickets sold by now.
06/21/98 Mick seems to be fully recovered. The Stones played yesterday an apparently amazing concert at Werchter's Festival site, to be repeated today in a second show. They played "Love in vain", "Dead flowers" and Keith switched to "You don't have to mean it" instead of "Thief in the night". Check IORR site for a complete review. Here's also a great picture of Mick during yesterday's performance. (source:"IORR", "El Periodico")
06/19/98 Bilbao fans goodbyed the Stones without hearing a single note from them. Keith, Charlie and Ron left the Maria Cristina hotel short after 4:00 pm surrounded by many reporters and fans, heading to Hondarribia airport to jump into an awaiting private Boeing 737, ready to take them to Brussels, for the next gig in the Werchter. (source: "El Periodico")
06/18/98 ”Bilbao cancelled! Mick's affection has caused the definitive postponement of the show dated for today's evening at San Mames Stadium. By now nobody knows if there's going to be any other date in September, because of the clash of interests with the owner of the stadium, soccer club Athletic de Bilbao. See a photo of the stage in middle of its building. (source: "Avui)"
06/17/98 The Stones arrived yesterday to the Vasque Country at the Hondarribia airport without Mick Jagger, still in Milano recovering from his laryngitis. The Stones will stay at the Maria Cristina Hotel in the city of San Sebastian. It's said that the Stones have asked for 300 towels, videogames and many more items to be in their rooms. (source: "El Periodico")
06/15/98 Click here to see a recent picture of the olympic stadium in the middle of its remodelation. The repairs are said to be finished in about one month, including the renewing of the whole grass surface with grass from Fontainebleau (France). (source: "El Periodico").
06/14/98 The Stones finally started yesterday in Nurenberg the European leg of Bridges to Babylon Tour. About 80,000.- people, Mick with laryngitys trouble and quite bad sound. No big surprises on the set: Under my thumb (web choice), Thief in the night (Keith), and no YCAGWYW due to Mick neck problems. Take a look at this picture from the concert. (source: "El Periodico")
06/12/98 During the weeks of uncertainty waiting for the confirmation of the show now dated for the 20th of July, ticket selling has been stopped a bit, and they're now 'round 35,000.-. See a couple of pictures from the press conference the Stones held yesterday in Munich, one with the four Stones and another with Keith and Mick. (source: "El Periodico").
06/08/98 A few days ago, a newspaper in Barcelona, announced the Irish band called "The Hothouse Flowers" as the opening act for Barcelona Stones' concert. This band played in Ronnie Wood album "Slide on this".
06/05/98 Marseille and 2nd Paris shows have been also cancelled, and in addition to previous cancellation of Lyon's concert, France have only one concert left in Paris, on the 25th of July.
06/04/98 ”New date for Barcelona! The concert will be finally done on the 20th of July. By now, about 35,000 tickets have been sold. Sadly, the concert in Gijon has been finally cancelled due to the low ticket sales, only 11,000 to this date.
06/01/98 ””It was today!! The Stones had to be here in Barcelona today for the show. But they're not. Instead, all fans have had the lucky chance to attend the concert of "Smoking Stones", Barcelona Stones' covers band, wich have made us forget the real Stones for a while. Great and intense concert.
05/21/98 Barcelona newspaper called "AVUI" (catalan for "Today"), announced today that from June the 8th to August, some readjustments will be made in the Estadi Olimpic de Montjuic, consisting in replanting the actual grass on the field, and replacing the drainage system under it. This probably means that the stadium won't be able to host any event of such dimensions as the Stones need. The fear around is about æwill the Stones be able to reschedule the Barcelona show in late August or September? Maybe the best dates to reschedule it would be half July, when the Stones should be back in Spain for the concerts in Malaga and Vigo. We'll just wait and see...
05/19/98 Is now well known the fact that Keith's been injured from falling from a ladder at his home in Westchester (Connecticut-USA), and now questions spread about how long will this take and when he'll be able to rejoin the Stones and start they're European 1998 Tour. By now the first four shows are cancelled for sure, and most probably almost 15 more shows will fall from the list. But all of the shows are said to be rescheduled.
