15-05-01, Chicago United Center. Sound Quality: Fair/Good to Good assisted listening device recording. Comments: I don't see the obsession with ALD or Earpiece recordings. I've found them to be consistenly lacking in either quality, annoying metronomes or just plain absense of atmosphere since the audience, U2's 5th bandmember, can hardly be heared. Some may call that a blessing but I've always found a good audience saving recordings of lesser quality if they are really singing along. At least this ALD has no annoying metronome but the overall sound is a bit stale. The 3rd U2 CHicago show brings us Discotheque/Staring at the sun again together with (jubilation) 11 o'clock tick tock and Out of control. Bono's claim that they haven't played 11 o'clock tick in 10 years isn't exactly true for those who know the Irving Plaza and London Astoria ATYCLB promo shows. But if he means big arena's he's probably right, the other 2 venues being clubs and 11 o'clock tick tock and Out of control were last played in a big arena in the 10-01-90 Rotterdam show. |
