22-03-01, Miami/Ft.Lauderdale National Car Rental Center. Sound Quality: Goodish earpiece recording. Comments: I'n normally not a great fan of earpiece recordings but this one is OK since its only a rehearsal and there is no audience anyway. An interesting recording for the insight into what goes before a tour starts and because they strictly adhere to a setlist instead of just doodling for a soundcheck. I strongly suspect that Bono's earpiece is the source of this recording. He comes out clearest of all, including his normally hard to hear backup guitar playing. This is the dress rehearsal for the 24-03-01 opening night and they're playing the whole setlist from beginning to end with the exception of I will follow. 11 o'clock tick tock gets played instead and it's not clear what that means. Was it originally intended to be played between New York and Sunday bloody sunday or was I will follow the choice from the start and they were just fooling around to have a change. I suspect I will follow was a last minute replacement because although it's one of my favorite songs the Elevation version just never really worked in that slot. It's played to slow compared to I will follow and Out of control. As an oddity it works well, as a setlist regular it just doesn't work. THe rehearsals are closed of with Bono asking the Elevation tour pastor to wake up from whatever flightcase he's sleeping in and to give his blessings to the tour. Which he does. |
