This is one of my favorite discs so far. Great outtakes and alternate versions, plus two live tracks. I can't tell the difference between this "That's the Way" and the final release. "Blues Medley" sounds like it was eventually turned into "Hats Off To (Roy) Harper." Robert also sings a great version of Elvis' "That's All Right Mama" in the Medley. I think this version of "Since I've Been Loving You," one of my favorite Zep songs, sounds better than the final mix on Zep III. It sounds like a different vocal track. I also prefer this version of "All My Love," as it has the whole ending without the fade out of the release on "In Through the Out Door." It also has some great studio chatter at the beginning and through the song you can hear some too, not to mention Bonzo's squeaky pedal. :) The next two tracks were recorded on 6/27/72 in Long Beach, CA. The CD lists them as 6/3/73. They are both awesome. "No more firecrackers!" The three versions of "No Quarter" are also quite interesting. I also like the third "No Quarter" better than the "Houses of the Holy" version. Great CD. Get it if you can. If not, look for a disc from Blue Kangaroo called "Happy Days." It's a direct copy of "Studio Daze." |
