A Little About MansonFreek

Hi, my handle is MansonFreek. Some of my musical favs are, Marilyn Manson, Coal Chamber, Lunatic Candy Kreep, and Nine Inch Nails. I play guitar and mess around on my computer since there's not much else to do where I live, and when there's a chance, I go to concerts with my friends. I guess you could call it a wasteland. Anyways, here is some of the concerts I have been to (which is what I do for fun), and my rating on them, so maybe it will help you decide whether or not you'd like to go see them or not.
The number of out of five tells you how good it was in my opinion.

7/23/96.....Smashing Pumpkins/Garbage

My first "real" concert, so it was probably worse than I thought it was. Garbage put my friends to sleep, and almost did me. It was probably only the adrenaline of the music that kept me awake. Smashing Pumpkins did pretty good, considering it was an arena show. Lot of special lighting made up for lack of content. Out of five blue balls..(ha ha), I'd give it:

10/8/96......Beck/Dirty Three

This show was held in a room about the size of five buses. Everybody was packed in like sardines. Damn hot too. The opening act, Dirty Three, wasn't very good in my opinion. There wasn't any words to the songs, which is something that I feel is one of the key elements to a good song. The lead singer was pretty funny, so that's what made it tolerable. Everybody was there to see Beck, so when he came out, everybody was pushing to the front. They put on a good show. It was pretty much like their Saturday Night Live performance, if you happened to catch that. Out of five....

11/8/96......Marilyn Manson/N.Y. Loose

Finally! My first Manson show. I had been trying to see them for over a year, but due to a lack of a driver's license, I was unable to see them. When I finally got my license, I was able to see the show. And what a great one it was. It was held in a tiny club, so there wasn't many of the non-die harders there. They were so full of energy, unlike the Dead to the World Tour. It was great. The openers, NY Loose, weren't exactly my bag of chips (or something like that) but they weren't bad either. They put on a good show live, which is what matters, so I guess I enjoyed them too. Out of five....

4/19/97......Buzzfest

Pretty much a snoozer. The highlight was Moby. I wouldn't recommend going to the next Buzzfest if you live in the Virginia area. I, and many others were bored with it. Only thing that saved it for us was the cool booths that were set up. Out of five.....

6/7/97.......Psychotica/Handsul Und Gretyl/Toilet Boys

Psychotica. Definetly a great performers, as well as nice people. All of the bands that performed at this show, were extremely nice, and talked to the crowd. I had the opportunity to meet, and talk to, all of the members of Psychotica, Toilet Boys, and Handsul Und Gretyl. This show represented many different regions of the musical spectrum. Toilet Boys are punk, Handsul Und Gretyl is futuristic/industrial/rock (or something. You'd have to hear it to know what I'm talking about) and Psychotica. All in all, a great show. It was well worth the $10. Out of five....

7/2/97.......Lollapalooza '97

Probably the best Lollapalooza show in a couple of years, but it still wasn't worth the $40. Only reason people went (for the most part) was for Korn and Tool. That was the only reason I went as well. Korn and Tool both did outstanding jobs, but that was about it. Other bands that played were, Julian Marley, James, Tricky, Snoop Doggy Dogg, and Orbital. Orbital and Snoop did a pretty good job as well, but it got boring at times. Over all, it was a great day, but it wasn't worth the $40 for the ticket. Out of five....

7/?/97.......Warped Tour '97

Sucked, sucked, sucked. Doesn't even deserve one star.

8/10/97......Coal Chamber/Powerman 5000/Sevendust

Great show. All of the bands that played had a great stage presence and show. If Coal Chamber or Sevendust come to your area....Go see them. Definetly worth the $6. I would've even payed more to see them play. In fact, I saw Coal Chamber the next time they came around. Me and my friends even had the opportunity to meet everyone in Sevendust and Coal Chamber after the show. Both were extremely friendly. Again, great show. Out of five....

9/8/97.......Coal Chamer

Again, it was a great show. Coal Chamber has a great stage presence, not to mention that the music is great. Definetly check them out. You'll be glad you did. Again, me and my friends were able to meet and talk to them after the show. They are suppossed to be coming around again soon with Type O Negative. I'll definetly be there. Out of five....

10/19/97.....Nothingface

Nothingface is a band coming out of DC that you will probably be hearing more of. They have a great sound to them and are great live. If you like Korn, or anything of that sort, you should check them out.

10/31/97.....St. Diablo

Local band from VA that is really good. They are definetly the best band to come out of the area in a long time. I run a webpage on them titled The Official St. Diablo Archives. Check them out. You'll be glad you did.

11/1/97......Nothingface

Second time seeing Nothingface. Again, they put on a great show, and you should check them out. I won't bore you any longer with saying the same thing over and over again.

11/2/97......Coal Chamber\Type O Negative\Electric Hellfire Club

Already explained how I feel about Coal Chamber. Great job. Since I'm not a big Type O fan, I left after one song.

11/3/97......Lunatic Candy Kreep

Great band with a bright future ahead of them. If you haven't heard them before, definetly check them out as well. I have a web page on Lunatic Candy Kreep if you're interested. Just click here to go.

11/23/97.....KMFDM\Skold\Pig

Great show although I almost didn't go due to the outrageous price of $20. I was satisfied with my money spent after the show though.

12/12/97......St. Diablo

The usual great show put on by St. Diablo, and the best part about it was, it was free. If only every concert was like that. Doesn't really matter though. I would definetly fork over my money to watch this band perform.

12/31/97......St. Diablo

Another great show, and again it was free. They unveiled their new song, titled "Stronger Still," which is fucking awesome. That's really the only way to describe it. Anyways, for more info, visit The Official St. Diablo Archives.

1/13/98......Insane Clown Possee/Psycho Realm/Misery

Fucking awesome show. No doubt about that. If this tour heads your way, stop in and check it out. Even if you're not a fan going in, you'll be one leaving. Psycho Realm is basically Cypress Hill minus one member, and they kicked ass, as did Misery (ICP's boys). I almost traveled four hours to watch the show again, but unfortunately, I had to go to work. I know my scale is suppossed to go to only five, but this show deserves seven!

I know I have been to more shows than this, but due to what goes on at these shows, :) I can't really remember all the others I have been to. Until the next time.... 1
