Here is an interview transcribed by a good friend of mine, and only Viv, Rick, Phil and Joe were there, all cramped on one couch. Sav was nowhere to be found …

Narrator: With the release of their new video "Promises" from their forthcoming album Euphoria, Def Leppard are hoping for the kind of success that made them one of the premier rock outfits of the 80s. And it's not just their 30 something fans they're targeting this time.

Joe:16 year old female girls

Rick: Anybody really.

Phil: It's always been .......

Joe : .........(Okay, this is the part where Joe mumbles something which unfortunately I can't hear because Phil is laughing)

Phil: We've always tried to get the cross-section. You want a 14 year old and a 50 year old in a concert. I mean, that's always been the dream. And we actually kinda done that with Hysteria.

Joe: 50 year old in front of Phil and 14 year old in front of me. Thank you.

(Phil laughs again)

Narrator: Although the band's last album won the much critical acclaim for it's experimental approach, it failed to make any real commercial impression. This time however, Def Leppard were keen to give their die-hard fans exactly what they wanted.

Phil: As we were writing songs for the album, we were just getting comments from people; fans, people in the business and go what would you like to hear? We'd love to hear classic Def Leppard. I mean really, people who don't even like the band was like this is what you should do. And when we started doing it, it became really natural for us to do it. It was a lot of fun because it just clicked. It was not us trying to be something else or trying to fit in. It was just unashamed, absolutely confident Def Leppard.

Narrator: Like their previous records, the group spent a lot of time piecing together Euphoria. Working in frontman Joe Elliott's Dublin home proved to be extremely productive.

Phil: He's got a proper studio downstairs. We also took over one of the bedrooms and that was like the vocal room. So, it really cut the album and it would have been a 2 year album, absolutely. There's just so much stuff on it.

Narrator: As far as tour plans are concerned, Def Leppard is set to kick off in America with a series of gigs in state fairs.

Joe: It's only for 8 weeks and you have to do them in the summer or you can't at all. And it just seemed like a nice idea to actually be able to tour during the summer cos it's the thing we like best. Then we're going to do Britain September October. And then after that I think we're going to be back indoors in America doing like regular arena gigs. After that, it's a case of whoever's next and whoever's last. What order they come in is whenever we'll go. If anybody wants us, they just have to phone and we'll be down there.
