"I become great friends with porcelain"
Martin Rossiter on his pre-recording nerves syndrome
Do you get anxious about releasing new material?
"I get very nervous about albums. My stomach turns into a US civil war battlefield, people firing small cannons inside it. I become great friends with porcelian. Singles are a small annoyance, they are not, by far, the only good songs we've written, There's that horrible moment of deciding which of your children you will stick under the spotlight to sell the rest of the family."
Has recording this album, 'drawn to the deep end' been cathartic?
"It feels more like it will allow the next album to be cathartic, it's huge step in that direction, but I haven't suddenly felt mightily released or felt the flow of troublesome effluence leaving my body. This record is a lot more open, alot more autobiographical, but I look forward to writing the next album - to me the greatest joy of this process is writing and rehearsing, seeing people's reactions to hearing the lyrics over music. It's a wonderful moment."
What about Shed Seven borrowing your guitar sound?
"I won't comment."
