Monumental Bullring / 22 o´clock in the night, it´s dark all around and the atmosphere is very hot! There are some shadows moving slowly on the stage, then Mark come in with a guitar in a hand and the other hand raised to the sky. Smiling like he never done before. Just the time to give his welcome to us and he starts with the rhythm of "Darling Pretty". The public is excited, and I try hard to distinguish to sound of "Darling Pretty", because there are too many people shouting and making noise.It´s a great moment for Mark, he sends kisses in every direction, shows big smile, and the guitar seems to be a toy in his hands. In his 3 hours of music, Mark plays almost all the songs of the last "Golden Heart", but he don´t forget some old songs like "Romeo And Juliet", "Brothers In Arms", "Telegraph Road", a strange version of "Water Of Love", and the inevitable "Sultans Of Swing".
The spanish listen with attention, asking for silence, to hear the sound of violins or some magnificent guitar solo, it get crazy only for few songs ("Sultans Of Swing" and "Money For Nothing" for example). Anyway Mark seems to like the spanish public, in fact he goes on minutes and minutes talking and joking. When we start with "Oe-Oe!" at the end of a song, Mark follow the people with his own guitar, and the whole band follow him. A friend of mine tell me that he plays "Oe-Oe!" only when Mark he´s having a good time. Just when Mark says "Stop, please! There´s too much fun!", the people get calm.
Mark leaves us with two long encores, where he gives us the unpublished "the Long Highway". And when all seems to be over, Mark appears again on stage with Guy Fletcher. Mark introduces him as: "A wild guitarist..." and leave soon the stage to go to the dressing room. Guy Fletcher (on the pedal steel) and the rest of the band stay on the stage and play a country song, maybe a song from the forthcoming Fletcher´ solo album. What a surprise!
This is the story of a big live concert. But I´m not satiated, I would like to meet Mark. Someone tell me that he´ll sleep at the Meridian Hotel, near the Ramblas de Cataluña. So I start to walk to reach the hotel. I meet almost all the members of the band, but I don´t see Mark. there are some others boys and girls waiting for the same reasons with records, shirts, tickets, ready to be autographed. It´s 4 o´clock in the morning, I´m feeling a little "Rudiger". A waiter tell us that Mark is in his room, and he´s sleeping. Maybe for this new, maybe because I´m too tired, I go back to my hotel. I´m totally satisfied, I never seen Mark playing this way, smiling and joking. A great concert!
