Shri Babaji was
deeply moved by the extreme poverty and ill health of the people of the Kumaon region and
wanted to build a comprehensive health care center for these people. established To honor Babaji's vision, the international family of His
devotees propose to build a hospital on the land specified by Babaji, adjacent to the
Chilianaula Ashram. The hospital will provide a wide range of medical and health
care services, including health education, to improve the quality of life of people in the
Kumaon region.
The hospital will have 96 beds: 48 in the first
stage and 48 in the second stage. It will provide facilities to treat ailments
common in the region and will support national and local health programs. It will
provide the first diagnostic facility in the area, and intensive care ward, well equipped
surgical and obstetrics units and ultrasound and X-ray facilities.
The diagnostic unit in the laboratory will conduct a
wide range of tests, and will serve as a collection center for samples that require more
detailed testing at more advanced laboratories. This will save patients from
travelling long distances for analysis and treatment.
Family care programs will support primary health
care in a number of ways:
- medical teams will be sent into the local villages on
a regular basis
- local residents will be examined to identify those
needing special medical attention in the hospital
- long term monitoring programs will be established to
maintain the health of all thos who have been treated
- local health workers will be trained in the
ante-natal,natal and post-natal fields so that all serious cases can be brought to the
hospital for treatment
- patients who cannot be treated in the hospital will
be identified so that treatment at a more advanced centers can be arranged
The hospital will have two modern operating rooms,
supported by a recovery room and a plaster room, and a day-care ward for minor surgery.
There will be well equipped ambulances to provide prompt attention for minor
surgery. There will be well equipped ambulances to provide prompt attention to the
sick. In addition to the hospital's doctors, the services of local and visiting
international consultants will be sought.
The services of local health organizations and
volunteers will also be sought to provide family care, school health care, periodical
medical examinations and medical counseling.
The hospital aims to provide modern, integrated,
comprehensive, compassionate health care facility.
The hospital will also offer alternative health
systems including Homeopathy, Ayurvedic, Naturopathy and Yoga.
It is projected that when the Hospital is fully
functional, the In-Patient Department will have 10,200 patients per year, the Out-Patient
Department will have 43,200 visits per year and the Emergency Department will have 7,200
visits per year.
Donations
For the international Samaj to realize Babaji's
desire to create this hospital, we must all give generously to this project both for the
construction of the hospital and also for its maintenance and running.
The Hospital will be financed entirely by donation
only. The total cost for construction and equipping the Hospital is US $2,500,000
with an equivalent amount required for the on-going expenses of the Hospital. Thus a
total of US $5,000,000 is required.
This is the most ambitions project undertaken by the
Haidakhandi Samaj and will require the help of people from throughout the world. It
is an extremely worthwhile project and one that will significantly improve the health care
of the Kumaon people.
