The Blues Connections of Cream
Cream was a psychedelic hard rock band with very strong blues roots. Its three members, guitarist Eric Clapton, bass player Jack Bruce, and drummer Ginger Baker, were all top instrumentalists and veterans of various British R&B groups including John Mayall's Bluesbreakers (Clapton), The Yardbirds (Clapton), The Graham Bond Organisation (Bruce and Baker), and Mannfred Mann (Bruce). Their live shows featured plenty of blues jamming and extended soloing--to some folks, these performances were absolutely fantastic; to others, they were totally overblown. The band's mighty version of the blues classic "Crossroads" (a/k/a "Crossroads Blues") went to #28 on the U.S. pop charts.
