The Blues Connections of Johnny Rivers
Johnny Rivers grew up in Louisiana where he became a fan of the local R&B artists. In the sixties and seventies, he had a long string of hits with many of them being remakes of R&B songs such as "Memphis" and "Rockin' Pneumonia (and the Boogie Woogie Flu)". He also had hits with remakes of Motown soul--Smokey Robinson's "Tracks of My Tears" and The Four Tops' "Baby I Need Your Loving". Rivers was a big fan of bluesman John Lee Hooker whose guitar playing influenced his own style of playing Rivers's live album Last Boogie In Paris includes a song where he pays tribute to Hooker.
