The Blues Connections of R.E.M. and Warren Zevon (a.k.a. The Hindu Love Gods)
Three members of R.E.M., Peter Buck, Bill Berry, and Mike Mills, revealed their love for the blues when they teamed up with Warren Zevon (of "Werewolves of London" fame). Together, they recorded a blues album with covers of songs from the likes of Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters. They named their group the Hindu Love Gods. But--seeing as they were playing the blues--wouldn't it have been more appropriate to call themselves the Hoodoo Love Dogs??? The blues songs contained on The Hindu Love Gods album are listed below. They are arranged alphabetically by the name of the musician who composed, originally recorded, or popularized the song. Robert Johnson: Walkin' Blues, Travelling Riverside Blues Albert King (also recorded by Tommy McClellan): Crosscut Saw Muddy Waters: Mannish Boy Robert Shad: Junko Pardner Koko Taylor (also recorded by Howlin' Wolf): Wang Dang Doodle
