Well last night was the start of GBS's US tour and what a fabulous show!! The B'ys did about 2 hours and did songs I had not heard live. The Theatre they played in was just beautiful, a fantastic place and great acoustics. They came out and started with Process Man, Billy Peddle, Ordinary Day, then Alan said since we're in a such a beautiful theatre, we'll do something "theatre appropriate" So Alan, Bob, and Séan did a piece from Phantom of the Opera, which they said they had practiced and put together earlier that day. Next came goin up' and as Alan turned around he stopped dead, looking at the mosaic of musical intruments behind the stage (it was a collage of guitars, fiddles, bodhrans and the like on the wall) and said, Oh my we better play well or our stuff will be up there too!! It was so, funny he just stopped frozen. The B'ys were so funny and really pumped last night. Alan then proceeded with Fast as I can, he said it was a song written for someone, but it backfired, but the guys liked it. Then Séan said WAIT a minute, rephrase that and don't start that stuff. Of course, Alan got that goofy look he gets and started laughing. They did Consequence Free, General Taylor, Darrell did Beggerman next was Paddy Murphy and then Lukey.. they took a short 15 min break. The theatre had set up a "irish mosh pit" as the guy said for dancing. So for the 2nd set I went up and was "stage Bob" for the rest of the show. I got Bob's set list for part 2 which was Donkey Riding, EOTW, Boston to St. John's, Old Black Rum, Fallin' which I seem to think would be a good "comercial" release. Then came the Jolly Butcher, Alan introduced it by saying it was a song about a revenge against men, and we must make a disclaimer that since we are singing this we are immune to any revenge. I still hadn't figured this was the Jolly Butcher they were going to do. So when they started, I screamed, mainly, because this is my all time favorite song and I had never heard it live. I was so happy, I kept hitting my friend.
Then came Ferryland Sealer, When I'm Up, Mari-Mac, when Séan started to do the "my part, your part" we all jumped right in. They looked really suprised, My friend, I ran into there (who is from Ohio) said hey, we just follow the B'ys around and help out the crowds!! Darrell did Excursion Around the Bay. Auntie Mary, Old Browns Daughter which had it's disclaimer clause about "words" that have different meanings today and how the language has gotten uglier. So of course when they came to "blow me" part, the younger people giggled, Alan looked a bit disgusted, oh well. Next came I'se the B'y then Rant and Roar, the Jakey's Gin which I didn't know Darrell did, I also notice that Bob used the metalic blue fiddle for that one. Then it was over. What a great show it was. They pretty muched chased everone out afterwards, and Danny said the guys were pretty wiped from the flight in and everything.
They were selling the GBS"hats" like the Olympic ones and I got one, they sell children sizes and I have a small head, so I got one that actually fits!!!! YEA!! (and no I'm not really a fat head).
Well that was Louisville and it was awesome. The best part is I get to see them next month, here in Chicago. Can't wait....
