The shanty group was formed in April 1994. Since then they have performed at festivals in Germany , Holland and the UK, including The International Festival of the Sea in Bristol. That appearance resulted in a booking at the Colston Hall, also in Bristol.

Baggyrinkle is the resident group at the annual Swansea Maritime Festival and has featured at the Pontardawe International Music Festival's popular shanty session for the last three years. They featured at Swansea's Celtic Festival in 1996. The group has the flexibility of performing in various combinations according to the availability of the members.

Baggyrinkle's speciality is three part harmony singing. They have been described as a..." Wall of sound - with terrific harmonies ! " Their repertoire not only contains sea-songs , but also a programme of drinking songs and "Coalfield" ballads. There are four instrumentalists within the group who play between them the concertina, fiddle, mandolin and guitar.
Baggyrinkle has recently produced a tape entitled
" A Pound and a Pint" (Black Mountain Records - CBM 3092)
The group has also made a video of shanties specifically for schools, and Dave Robinson, the group's leader conducts shanty workshops for schools in Swansea's Maritime & Industrial Museum.
