- DSBD/dSBD=DAT
soundboard
- "1st" or "2nd"=the recording was mastered on ANALOG equipment and i have this gen mastered onto DAT or CD
- "low gen"=i have an unknown gen mastered to DAT or CD which is good enough to trade in the DAT realm. could be 1st or 2nd gen, but i do not know for certain what gen
Rating System:
i use your basic alphabetical system where "A+" is the best sounding tape. i make the following exceptions:
- soundboards/FMs are judged harshly b/c it's given that they are superior quality. a "B+" soundboard is not equal to a "B+" audience tape. it's probably euqal to an "A" audience tape or better
- analogs mastered to DAT are judged not as harsh. an "A" analog tape is not equal to an "A" DAT recording. probaly more around a "B+" DAT recording
i can't judge different source tapes on the same rating scale. it's simply impossible for me to compare a dSBD to a 30 year-old analog audience tape. the old tape may be "A+" for what it is, so i rate it as that. pls take into account what the source is b/4 looking at my ratings.
