Forlorn Interview

Forlorn is a very interesting metal band from Norway. Interview is with the main founding member Alvarin. Their CDs "Forlorn" and "The Crystal Palace" are on Head Not Found (owned by Metalion), and "Ad Caelestis Res" on Napalm Records.

WHAT IS "THE CRYSTAL PALACE" ABOUT? I LIKE TO START MY RADIO PROGRAM WITH IT, AND LIKE TO LISTEN TO IT WHEN I WAKE UP. DOES IT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH BEGINNINGS?

ALVARIN - The Crystal Palace is about dreams, fantacy, looking towards the future in the everyday life and so forth. Its about moods & energy...

I LIKE THE WAY YOUR MUSIC IS WELL WRITTEN WITH LOTS OF FLOW AND ENERGY IN IT. THAT SEAMS TO BE SOMETHING A LOT OF METAL BANDS LACK. IS THERE A SPECIAL METHOD OF WRITING A SONG THAT WAY?

ALVARIN - hehe, not that I know of...I think if there is honesty in a song it will become good by itself in a way. and maybe it depends how one looks upon songwriting. Some write music to make money, others make music for fame, and then theres those, like myself, who makes music simply because it is the coolest thing in the world to see a song come to life with you as an assistant...

WHAT IS SPIRITSHADE ABOUT?

ALVARIN - The Spiritshade is centered around the theme of galactic warfare, alien deities etc...I look upon the song as a science fiction story...

WHERE HAVE YOU PLAYED LIVE?

ALVARIN - heheh..nowhere....YET...we've only been 2 musicians in Forlorn(permanent) so live-shows has always been rather difficult for us. However, we will play live as of from the release of our next album.

WHAT KIND OF MUSIC AND BANDS DID YOU LISTEN TO WHEN YOU WERE YOUNG?

ALVARIN - Well, that depends on how young...In all honesty I liked AHA when I was 7 years, even saw them live once...hehe, but after that I went through the following bands : Kiss, Def Leppard, WASP, and then I heard Metallica...which blew me light years away...and to this day, Metallica is still my all time favourite band.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE BANDS NOW?

ALVARIN - Metallica(off course) Pain, The Cure, Seigmen(norwegian band now know as Zeromancer) Techno bands...Soulfly, etc...but these days its easier to talk about fav music styles, genres, instead of bands...

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT FAVORITE MUSIC STYLES, GENRES?

ALVARIN - Indeed I can...my fave music genres includes, all kinds of metal(as long as it is good) Alternative styles...techno, rap/hip hop, some crossover styles...such as Natasha Atlas...but I do NOT like gospel & country and product-bands !!!!

WHAT DIRECTION IS NORWEGIAN METAL GOING, AND WHO ARE THE NEW BANDS AND MUSICIANS TO LOOK FORWARD TO?

ALVARIN - More professional...the bands these days wishes to make great music...and the tendencies seems to be brutal...seems like they are becoming moore aggressive in a up to date fashion...but what bands to watch out for...I really don't know, I don't pay that much attention to the scene nowadays...

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH METALION?

ALVARIN - I haven't actually talked with him in a while...or written, but my encounters with Metalion has always been funny and ehm....alcoholic...hahahahaha...

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL PEOPLE?

ALVARIN - LOOK FORWARD...have amazing dreams...have fun....enjoy... and have lots and lots and lots of SEX :)
