KING DIAMOND, SHADOWS FALL, THE DEEP, BABAYLON WHORES
LIVE AT KEY CLUB, JULY 20, 2000 in HOLLYWOOD
The DEEP, a Slayer type thrash band from Texas started out, and played very
well with lots of energy and skill, and I enjoyed them very muck.
BABAYLON WHORES sounded like an European style hard rock band that I thought
was average sounding and not orignal, and I don't know why they were playing with
these other great sounding bands.
SHADOWS FALL played extremely well live, Very Tight, lots of action
with very long dreadlocks flying everywhere. They played "The First Nobel
Truth" and "Of One Blood" which went out to those who keep the
underground metal scene alive. I met them before and after the concert,
and they are nice guys.
KING DIAMOND started out with a couple of tunes from "Them" with Grandma comming out
of her rocking chair, and hobbled around the stage. Gargoiles, Candelabras, and a
coffin were surrounded by errie smoke on the stage. King's voice was extremely strong,
the best I have ever heard him. King delivered a baby and played with it very badly,
before he threw it into the audience where the doll got towern up to pieces, and
then did Abagail. Voodoo sent chills up my spine the way King sang it, and other
songs were Spiders Lullably, The Black Horsemen, Sleepless Nights. They did music
from most of their recordings. This was one
of the best live perfrmances they have done. The crowd was totally wild with
slam pits and stage divers all over constantly in a place that was totally packed and
sold out. King asked if the heat made them wild. Then he said you're always that way.
The band plays Christmas songs very funny out-of-tune, and skinny King comes out
dressed like Santa laughing loudly throwing gifts into the audience as he sings
No Presents For Christmas, a real good mockery. This was the funniest thing I
have seen.
