These guys rock! They are catchy
and will fuck you up! If you like your punk snotty, Clashesque, and with attitude to spare, this is for you. Three songs, all great, including a cover of the Beat's "Rock 'N' Roll Girl", one fucking great song! [JD] |

Morticia's Lovers - Rocknroll
Overdose Zaxxon Virile Actions Italy LP 2003 Maximum Rock 'n' Roll - April 2003 MORTICIA'S LOVERS are in heavy rotation in my car. These Italian bad asses have released their second album on Zaxxon Records and it fucking smokes. Mixing the snot-nosed elements of the KIDS, the lo-fi gene of SUPERCHARGER, and a thrashed-out nod to 50s r 'n' r like the SPACESHITS, this is fun for the whole rock and roll family. And as a bonus, it's delivered with those adorable Italian accents. Just precious. Listen to them rework PAUL COLLINS BEAT's "Rock 'n' Roll Girl", I swear to God I don't even know if they are singing the correct lyrics. (by Bobby Manic) |
The Stoneage Hearts - Turn On With... CD Off The Hip - OTH7001 2003 Australia |
Debut album from highly regarded Melbourne supergroup. featuring: DANNY MCDONALD (P76 / JERICHO), IAN WETTENHALL (SEMINAL RATS / HANDS OF TIME / THE PHILISTEINS) & MICKSTER (CRUSADERS / THE FINKERS / PYRAMIDIACS). Another excellent Aussie band that features one of the members of the Hands Of Time! The Stoneage Hearts have a decidedly more '70s powerpop sound, and what a sound it is! Super-catchy stuff, with lots of biting guitars and vocal harmonies. Great covers of "Rock And Roll Girl" (Paul Collin's Beat), "I'm In Love" (Zippers) and "Stranded On A Dateless Night" (Cordell Jackson). Originals like "So Glad (That You're Gone)" and the super hard-driving "Two Timing Girl" really get my feet a stompin'! "Kimberly" mines similar territory to the Hands Of Time with its fuzzed-out guitars, wailing harp and general garage rock groove. Similarly, a cover of the Good, The Bad & The Ugly's "Houndog Man" gets the raving R&B treatment with tasty blues licks and more fab harp work. This is fantastic! |

The Pinkz - USA/Tearin' Me
Apart Songs USA This single easily wins a secure spot in my top three favorite records of 2000. The Pinkz are one of the best bands around today. No bullshit. If they manage to stick together, they're gonna go down as legends. The Pinkz (who feature former members of LOLI & THE CHONES, BITCH SCHOOL and the FEVERS) made an impressive show at the Las Vegas Shakedown back in August. They were the first band to kick off the weekend. Though they were a great start to an amazing weekend, it's a shame more people didn't get to see 'em. Their first single, which so far has been sold only at their shows, gets the Pinkz out with two impressive covers. The first side jumps right into a ballsy cover of the BEAT's "USA." The flip side has these SoCal girls doing justice to TEENAGE HEAD's "You're Tearing Me Apart." Both songs have the same qualities of pure, unadulterated, catchy, 100% American rock 'n' roll. From song subject to the actual music, these songs have it all and then some. - Mark Murrmann |
