ALBUM REVIEWS - COAST TO COAST

TOP OF THE POPS - NOVEMBER 2000
*****
ALBUM OF THE MONTH 2! (Along with Spice Girls' Forever)
Style of music: In line with the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", the second Westlife alb is hardly a drastic departure from their first. "It's not much different," explains Nicky, "there's just a fresher sound to it. There are still a lot of the big ballads, but there are a few more uptempo, in-your-face tracks, too." The big surprise it the lads' dalliance with rock. "Some of the ballads are a lot heavier, a lot rockier," insists Shane. "There's a lot of guitar and some really hard vocals, which make, overall, for a really powerful result."
Which singles are on it? The No1 I Have A Dream and Against All Odds plus the latest smash, My Love. And you can bet there are another six No 1s on here, too.
Anything else to watch out for? Plenty, as the album contains a positively whopping and bumper-bargainious 19 tracks! "There's a song called Dreams Come True and it's a really hard-hitting, uptempo song," confides Mark. "It's a bit like 'N Sync's style, but hopefully people won't think we're copying them. We just wanted to show we're capable of more than ballads. It's very funky." There's also Kian's favourite track, What Makes A Man. "Shane's vocal is amazing on that track," he brags, "and it's got quite a hard, edgy sound, almost like a Bon Jovi track." And finally if you're looking for the tear-jerker of all of tear-jerkers, check out Bryan's choice tune, Angel's Wings. "It's a song our producer, Steve Mac, wrote for his baby," admits Bry. "It's absolutely gorgeous. He was just overwhelmed by the whole thing and captured that mood in the song, but really the lyrics can relate to anything".
