SHANE WESTLIFE
- the horse loving boy from North-West of Ireland

HEVOSHULLU 24/99

Shane, a member of Westlife, has grown up with horses on his parents farm in Ireland. When our editor met this incredibly charming 19-year-old young man, she got to hear how much Shane misses horses and riding.

I meet Shane at Sheraton hotel in Stockholm. Shane looks almost astonished when I tell him that there's a group of fans outside the hotel.
What? Is there fans outside? Oh. He's very modest and says several times that he's not a star. The band is only starting out. Their first album is out soon, and Shane explains that being successful in Europe takes much more than being successful in Ireland. Yet their first single, Swear It Again, went straight into number one both in Ireland and England!

Youngest in family
Shane has been singing almost all his life. Even when he was 4 or 5 he used to sing at his parent's parties and at the age of 12 he got lead roles in musicals. Though singing takes most of his time, his family is not especially musical.
- Dad sings sometimes, but mum or any of my six siblings don't sing.
Shane is the youngest in his family and he admits that's he's been quite spoiled.
- Yeah, definitely, he laughs.
Back home in Ireland his family has a stable of nearly 50 horses. Every time Shane goes home he tries to get time for some riding.
- My brother, Liam, runs the stable. He's a trained accountant but he only wants to be with horses. He's a real horseman, Shane says proudly.
