Today I received the new UK singles. They're wonderful! World tonight comes in a double-CD case, ioncluding the track listing for #2. The covers are the same used for the American "World tonight" single, but background, instead of purple, is blue for #1 and orange for #2. The complete track listing has been showed before, but here are the reviews for the news tracks:
The world tonight #1 | The world tonight #2 |
Squid is the new track, from Oobu Joobu, but it didn't appear on the original radio series. The song has a lovely acoustic guitar riff, and a great drum work. I loved it! | Don't break the promise is the new track. It was originally written for and released by Eric Stweart and the 10 CC. Here is presented the original demo version by Paul. Wonderful tune! |
As happenned with the Young boy singles, on the end of #2 Paul says that we'll find more Oobu Joobu on the next single, which means... There will be a next single!!!!
July 18, 1997
Two new UK flaming singles are already avaiable to Brazilian costumers who know where to get them. Today I've talked to one my favourite Brazilian stores and they already have both singles. Of course I ordered them immediately.
The new UK singels are "The world tonight" #1 and #2. To be honest, I don't know exactly which is #1 and which is #2. Anyway, these are the songs:
The world tonight #1 | The world tonight #2 |
---|---|
The world tonight Used to be bad Oobu Joobu #3 |
The world tonight Really love you Oobu Joobu #4 |

News about the tape with John's and Paul's 1974 jam appeared on various brazilian newspapers. As everybody knows, Paul announced on a live internet chat that he and John had jamed together in 1974, and the session was recorded. Serious fans hve known this for years, for this session has appeared on a fantastic bootleg.
One of the articles also quoted that Flaming pie is golden disco on both sides of the Atlantic!! Congratulations, Paul!
On the same article, Paul told that none of the album songs were written for release purposes.
27 May 1997
Flaming pie was released on US. First costumers got an exclusive free bonus CD with excerpts from disc 5 of Oobu Joobu
22 May 1997
Yesterday I got the US World Tonight single from CDnow. It took exactely two weeks to get here. If you can't be in the US to get this single, you can make it via CDnow. These are the tracks:
The world tonight | The same version as the album one |
Looking for you | This one brings Ringo on drums and Jeff Lynne. From the same session which originated Really love you. |
Oobu Joobu - part 1
| These are excerpts from Oobu joobu radio program, but I love this house only appeared as an edit, and it's complete here. Although numbered as '3' on the CD, each of these Oobo Joobu fragments is an independent track on the CD. It's strange the replacement of Yound boy for The wolrd tonight, becasue Paul talks about Young boy on the CD, but the song isn't played. |
Harald Gernhadt has put on his page that US buyers of Flaming Pie will get a special fress CD with Oobo Joobu material. God! Sometimes it's hard to live in the margins of the world. I can't understand why people like brazilian are treated with such disrespect by their north fellows. Come on, EMI, Capitol, Warner, the boundaries are coming down!! Is the musical industry stupid enought to desconsider this??? No problem, we still have bootlegers to provide us with it.
17 May 1997
As expected, the Flaming Pie wecast failed
in Brazil today.
Besides not having VH-1 and not being included on Capitol's
concept of 'worldwide', Brazilian fans weren't able to follow
Town Hall Meeting on internet. the lines were too slow that it
was completly impossible to see it. Every 10 minutes a static Paul
changes his positionon the monitor, and every 15 minutes one could
hear 3 seconds of sound... It's a shame. I hope that when we have
childre we'll laugh about thses primitive first internet years,
just like our parents laugh at how primitive TV was in hte past.
Yesterday I got my Brazilian copy of Flaming Pie!!
It's just great!! The cover is printed in a fingerprint-resistent
paper, like the Japanese edition of Unplugged. It's a
picture CD, exactely like the European version. See the complete
track listing, with comments:
What should I say about this record? As I said before, I don't
think I'm in condition in judging Paul's work... All I can say is
that I LOVED the album!! This guy seems to be condemned to never
write a bad song... Have you imagine what a terrible weight?? :o)
I must admit that now and then he tries to do a bad thing, but
he just can't help putting his magic touch in everything he does!!!!
I'm not saying congratulations, Paul!!! Just a BIG and sincere
THANK YOU!!!!! Hope this can get to you somehow!!
I saw you in Rio in 1990. In 1993, everything was ready to see
you in Curitiba and São Paulo, but I felt terribly sick just
three days before the show, and I wasn't able to get up from the
bed...:o(... God, how I feel sad about this... I just hope you're
comig back someday!
16 May 1997
Flaming Pie has been relased in Brazil!!!! I've
just phoned a CD store and they already have the CD!!! Of curse,
I mean, of course it will take SOMEDAYS (I'm inspired in playing
with words today, isn'it?) for the CD to get to all the stores.
Most of them don't even know there's a new Paul album. But the
good stores already have it!!!
15 May 1997
Flaming Pie singles will be avaiable
in Brazil
It was told me that the brazilian edition of Flaming pie
is already ready, and must be on the stores before the end of the
week. Of course we shouldn't believe in this, since it's brazilian
market we're dealing with, but it wouldn't be in vain waiting for
the album on the next few days, perhpas on the beginning of the
next week.
Yeah!!!!!
I got Flaming Pie,
Two songs are missing in the tape, so I got 12 tunes. They are:
I LOVED the record!!!! The songs are all fantastic, but SOuvenir
impressed me in a particular way. OF course I don't think I'm
in condition of judging a work from Paul McCartney, but, in my
humble opinion, I think he is GETTING BETTER ALL THE TIME!!!!
The tape keeps rolling over and over!!!! Thanks, Carol!!!! REALLY
LOVE YOU!!!! :o) Thanks Alexandre at Radio Alvorada!!!!! Be
welcome to get some recordings from me!!!:o)
The songs we were singing
A beautiful ballad. It's not usual for a Paul album to be
opened with a ballad, so this is kinda unusual. A huge song.
The world tonight
To me one of the best songs Paul has ever written. Really
fantastic song! If you wanna
Another one of my personal favourites. It's a fast number with
a nice guitar solo by Steve Miller Somedays
A thrilling acoustic song, with lovely orchestration. I've
already got the chords from this song, and I'll be putting them
here soon, if Maccanada doesn't do it first. Young boy
Do I have to say anythig about this one?? I think everybody's
amazed with it!!!! Calico skies
A lovely acoustic ballad Flaming pie
Somepeople still say that Paul doens't know how to rock...
Of course they haven't listned to this one... Heaven on a sunday
One of the best songs on the entire album, this one is the type
of song wich takes us to another world. Really thrilling.
Used to be bad
A blues number! Huge! Souvenir
Well... Have you ever had the feeling that 'if I had written
this song, and nothing else in my life, I could die, and I'd
know that I'd have justified my presence on Earth'? This is this
kind of song!!!! It's absolutely amazing!!! To me it matches in
quality the best things Paul has ever written, like Hey Jude
or That day is done. Fantastic!!
Little willow
Lovely, tearing, touching song Really love you Rentless :o) Beautiful night
This is the kind of song Elvis would like to sing in middle
seventies. I can hear Elvis doing it!! For some strange reason it
reminds me of Once upon a long ago.
Great day
It was 25 years ago. This one really has the Ram and
Wild life feeling. Huge!
It is not that EMI is releasing the singles here or is importing
them, but specialized stores will have them!!! I talked to the
people at Urban Cave and they assured me they must have
them soon. If you wanna try, their number is (031)224-5127. If
it's difficult for you to get things in Belo Horizonte, try the
best stores in your city, and they must be able to get the
singles for you.
thanks to my beloved Carol!!
She went to the radio station and taped with for me!!! Isn't she
sweet? :o) In addition, she brought me a chocolate!!! See the
cover she made for the tape and the chocolate paper:

Flaming pie broadcasted in Brazil!!!
And guess what: I MISSED IT!!!!!!! Yeah, a local radio station called Alvorada broadcasted 12 songs from Flaming Pie, and i could only get three of them... Fortunately my outstanding girlfriend managed to go to the radio station and get the complete tape for me. Hopefully I'll have it tomorrow!!!!!!! I heard Souvenir and two other tracks. Souvenir is absolutely astonishing!!
I'm still confused on record stores. Somepoeple insit that they'll have the record today, other that it will be here by the end of the week, other in the next 10 days... Let's wait and see...
The world tonight was released in US on 06 May 1997
The world tonight contains the title track plus the bonus tracks from UK Young boy #1. As far as I know, the bonus tracks from the second UK single are not being released in the US. And, of course, NOT in Brazil... Flaming Pie was released in Europe on May, 05, 1997.
Flaming Pie was released in Europe in this day. First reviews are that it's one of best albums Paul has ever made. Judging by what I've heard (sevem songs>, I guess it's true!!
The album contains 14 songs and a nice booklet. Besides Paul, Ringo, Linda, Jeff Lynne ans Ateve Miller play on the record.
There's noe xpected release date for Brazil. Nothing seem to work right here. Store men always say that 'it will be here by the end of the week', but the truth is that they don't even know what they are talking about...
Young boy singles were relased in Europe on 28 April 1997.
Songs are:
Young boy #1 | Young boy #2 |
Young boy Looking for you Oobo Joobu part one |
Young boy Broomstick Oobo Joobu |
As everybody knows, Looking for you, Broomstick and the oobu Joobu excerpts are bonus tracks for these singles and they ARE NOT on Flaming Pie. The US single The world tonight only contains the bonus tracks for the first single. If you'd like to order UK singles from CDNOW, please look for Harald Gernhadt's link. If you'd rather try Music Machine, I've heard they have better prices than CDNOW.
Brazilian fans don't need to expect the bonus tracks for the singles. As usual they apparently not being released here, so we'd better order these CD's from internet!!!!
!
I liked Broomstick better than Looking for you. They're both nice tracks with a rock feeling, but Broomstick goes more bluesly. A wonderful tune!!!
About Flaming Pie title
I don't have the record yet, to think about the conceptual meaning of this title in the work's context, so that's it for now.

Of course you HAVE to know the official Flaming Pie site!!!!
