On september 1962 John and George premiered their new acoustics, both Gibson J-160E models, which would be known to this day as a nother classical beatel instrument. It was a beautiful sunburst guitar with a pick put right next to the neck. The picture at left shows George's guitar as it is today. You can see there's some small holes next to the bridge; that's because the pick-ups were replaced, but later they were returned to their original position. John's of course was stolen in late 1963, but George carried his in his collection until the end. John for his turn bought a replacement J-160E in 1964. This new instrument would have a deep importance in Beatles and Lennon history. First it received a psychedelic finish, which was removed in the late-60s for the series of bed-ins John and Yoko promoted. This historic acoustic guitar thank God is safely owned by Yoko to this day. Gibson has issue a special series of three J-160 models, depicting the three stages John's second guitar have crossed, as shown on the picture bellow. |
