Vigotone continues its collection of "making of"'s with thie 3 CD set which registers the genesis of "Walls and bridges". To me, "Walls and bridges" is perhaps the most enigmatic album in John's collection. These songs just seem to come from somewhere else. That's obvious on "#9 dream", but a oniric feel is on the other tracks too.
Above all, these demos let us know about John magic talent. The album itself is wonderfully produced, but the simple demos gave no clue about what the songs could become. SO it always seemed that this is an important difference between John's and Paul's ways of composing. While Paul will make of his demos real full-band studio recordings, John will always get a simple acoustic gutiar, or piano on a drum box. It was almost like he was capable of listening to the entire orchestration, with band and choir, on his head, while he was composing. He knew what that rough sketch would sound like, just as if writing to him was an act of faith.
