The following is a paper proposal for a project I did for my Female Sexuality class last semester. I did finish the project, thanks to many of your wonderful responses to my proposal. I plan on posting up the paper itself in the near future, and definitely plan on doing more work with this topic
"Tori and Her Influence on Female Sexuality" Paper Proposal
Female sexuality is pulled on from many directions in America. Demands are made on young women from the media, their family, their friends, the opposite sex, and their partners. Growing up, sexuality has become problematic and confusing. Positive role models are hard to come by for young women: how often do you find an intelligent, left wing woman was permitted to be beautiful and sexy in popular media?
Tori Amos - her music and lyrics - have conveyed a message to young women: It's okay to be sexual, "good," say no, and love yourself. Her song Me and a Gun has helped thousands of young women overcome histories of sexual abuse. Precious Things is a favorite among many, expressing the angst of growing up and trying to please the people around you, unsuccessfully. Tori's Under the Pink album is centered on women: some of the topics she explores are women's sometimes viciously competitive relationships with one another, masturbation, and lost love. Boys for Pele is relationship-centered: learning to draw your sexuality and energy sources from yourself, and not necessarily from the people around you. From the Choirgirl Hotel deals with the insecurities of motherhood, marriage, committment, and sex.
Through this final project paper, I would like to explore how Tori has influenced young women - myself included - and their sexuality. Why is she so appealing to young women? Is there a common strand through Tori's fan base? I will focus on the 12-21 age group, though not exclusively. I will also address my perceptions on how sexuality is shaped during adolescence and why it is so problematic.
About My Page
It has been a long time since I've made any drastic changes to my page. I've been busy and I apologize for the stagnation of this page (should you be a returning visitor, thank you...I'm flattered!)
Well, I hope you enjoy browsing through my site. I've had a lot of a fun working on it - adding my own flavor to the multitude of Tori dedications on the internet. If you like, you can always e-mail me and share your thoughts about Life, Universe, and Tori. :-)
If Venus had a song, it would be a Tori song. She is a goddess among goddesses.
My page is far from adequate as far as providing you with the Tori necessities, so I have provided some links that do. I have a good collection of her lyrics from her albums, b-sides, and cover songs. I also put up a page of my concerts and b-sides to trade as well as a guide to some merchandise vendors on the internet that deal with rare and not-so-rare Tori items.
If you want to find out more about me, you can click over to my Home Page.
