You're flint Nr. that's hard on this page since 15.08.97

E-Mail me whatever you consider important Where I stand : The term HARD being applied to the music does not necessary mean fast or thrashy. First of all, hard music expresses hard emotions, feelings etc. And ultimately it doesn't matter whether this music is performed with crunchy guitars or distorted synths. The same thing with the term HEAVY. It doesn't necessarily have to recall stuff like KREATOR or something. Heavy music was born to create and reflect basically dark and grim moods. For that reason I would describe both say RUSH and THE EXPLOITED and SKINNY PUPPY with the compound term HARD'N'HEAVY, though at first look they all seem to have nothing in common ...

Origin of this site

STAY HARD was set up by me, Nick Igritski, in July 1997 and has been steadily expanding since then. The site has seen the light due to efforts of guys from GEOCITIES. I do not pay for this 11 MB webspace - it is provided free to all customers. The only thing I can dream of is increasing of the available room so, that I could place all the sound files and high-resolution pics that I created over there. However, it seems there is nothing which can be done about it right now. Anyway ... cheer up and stay hard !

What is it all about ?

When I was about 13 (1982), I began noticing all these graffities on the school desks and toilet walls saying things like "AC/DC rules !", "KISS Army" etc. Having no idea what was it all about, I felt drawn to all that stuff in a strange way and asked my father to procure something for listening. At the time my father was a lecturer at a college and one of his students had presented him a tape with AC/DC "High Voltage" and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap". That kind of music literally stroke me dumb. I have never ever heard something like this before. After that shock heavy music became "diagnosis of my illness", as I like to describe it. Since then convalescence never came. I spent 15 years lsitening to and collecting all possible HARD'N'HEAVY records starting with cyberpunky rockers like BILLY IDOL and finishing with frost-bitten stiffs like CANNIBAL CORPSE. Now that I have 1000 cassettes, 200 CDs (approx. 1700 hours of music) and lotta experience, I look back and realize, that the best things mankind ever created on the HARD front were there - between late 70'es and early 90'es. And that is the subject I want my site to be dedicated to. Not that all the "newcomers" (I mean bands appeared on the scene within last 5-7 years) have been doing bad music ... The matter is that HARD music became too repetitive and sometimes too boring despite excellent performance. There's a noticeable trend to simplify the music instead of keeping at least the same level of complexity and harmony as in the 80's. HARD music originates NOT from NIRVANA as some people may guess, as well as HARD music is not only the likes of TESTAMENT or JUDAS PRIEST. And that's exactly what I wanna prove on my pages.

Definitions

Maybe for some of you, dear visitors of this site, it would be useful and interesting to become familiar with specific terms used for description of the variety of styles and trends within HARD music. If you wanna delve among them, pull any of these out. It's important to notice, that not all these definitions were contrived by myself - part of them I really invented lacking better ready ones and part was borrowed and compiled from other sources.
