Route
Scorching, rusty, and catchy... This loud, garage rock, guitar-
driven track really sets in the album's dusty Midwestern
feel. The tune deals with the fact that many people are
never really satisfied with their current conditions,
whether it be occupation, relationship, or what seems to be
most evident in this song, the region of the country in which
one is living. Jay seems to be saying that we can act on
our feelings and move to the place that makes us happiest,
though often times we do not. And then if we do, "we're all
living proof that nothing lasts." The song seems to state one
of my point-of-views pretty bluntly as well. That being
that in the quiet rural South, away from the noise
and hectic ways of the big city, one can really get to know
themselves, and even "leave themselves behind" so to speak. One
of my favorite lines in any song is, "Southbound you can taste
the weather, it feels like home..."
Reality, it burns
The way we were living is worse
The pillars of inspiration are all falling down
The clean-up won't work while the fallout goes on
And it's now or never, too close to the latter
We're all living proof that nothing lasts
Standing in the neutral zone
Living on sleep deprivation
The rural route sleeps while the city bleeds all over itself
Over the falls in the barrel is where the answers have gone
(Chorus)
And it's now or never, too close to the latter
We're all living proof that nothing lasts
And it's here for now, transient tomorrow
We're all living proof that nothing lasts
Another road remains, but it provides no more
It can only take us away
Southbound, you can taste the weather
It feels like home
(Chorus)
