Stacie and Nick refused to be separated. Each looked like they were supporting the other as they walked into the office. They sat in the waiting room until it was time for their session. Stacie felt like everyone's eyes were on them and clung even tighter to Nick. The wait was only about five minutes, but it felt like eternity to the two. Finally, one of the workers came and told them they could go in and see the counselor. They were led into a small office and told the counselor would be in in a few minutes. The bodyguards stood outside and waited for them. The room had a desk, two chairs and a few bookcases. Neither wanted to sit alone and neither looked ready to let go of each other anytime soon, so Nick sat down and pulled Stacie into his lap. She sat and wrapped her arms around his neck. The doctor came in about two minutes later. Both jumped
when they heard the door open.
"Hello," said the doctor, shaking each of their hands. "I'm Dr. Hebert. How are you two today?" The two kind of shrugged and said okay. Neither looked like they were okay. Both looked tired and stressed. The guy walked around and sat behind his desk. He opened up the folder that contained the police reports and the statements Stacie and Nick had provided to the police. "I've looked over the reports and your statements, but I haven't read them in detail," he said. "I'd like to hear both of you recount the events that occurred last night. Nick, why don't we start with you?" Nick drew in a shaky breath and slowly began to retell all that had occurred. Then Stacie told her perspective. This went on for about an hour and a half. Then
they made an appointment for the next day and left the office. The bodyguards led them to the van and they were silently driven back to the hotel. The two stumbled into their suite when they
got there.
"Hey guys," said Brian who was watching TV with AJ and Howie. He got up and came over to where they were. "How'd it go?" Nick shrugged.
"Okay I guess. It helped some," he said.
"That's good." Nick nodded. Stacie was still hanging on to Nick, half hiding behind him. "Hey
Stace," said Brian. "How'd it go for you?" Stacie shrugged. Brian could tell she'd been crying. He reached over and hugged the two. Stacie weakly hugged him back. "What are you guys gonna do now?" he asked.
"Probably try to get some sleep," said Nick. Brian nodded.
"Kevin and Chloe are crashed in Kev's room," he said. Nick nodded and started heading towards his room, Stacie trailing after him.
"I'll see you guys later," said Nick before shutting the door. He wrapped his arms around Stacie and they both drifted off into a restless sleep.
Not long after they'd fallen
asleep, Chloe woke up. She smiled when she realized where she was but the smile faded when she remembered all that had occurred. She pulled herself out of Kevin's embrace and went into the "living room." "Hey," she said. "Stacie and Nick back yet?" Brian nodded.
"Yeah, they got back not long ago. They're asleep in Nick's room."
"How'd they seem?" she asked, sitting in a nearby armchair. Brian sighed.
"They didn't look so good. Tired and stressed. Nick said that talking to that counselor helped though."
"Well that's good," said Chloe. A few minutes later, Kevin woke up and stumbled into the room. He asked the same questions as Chloe. He then settled himself next to Chloe. A few hours later, Stacie woke up and joined them. "Hey guys," said Stacie before collapsing into a chair.
"Hey," they all said.
"How ya feeling?" asked Chloe.
"Better," said Stacie. "Sleeping helped."
"That's good," said Chloe, coming over and giving Stacie a hug. A few minutes later, Nick came in and joined the group. Everyone noticed that they both seemed calmer and more relaxed. After a few minutes of watching TV, Nick suddenly spoke up. "Have they found anything on that guy?" Howie sighed and shook his head.
"Nada. The police and everyone have been looking, but he still hasn't been seen anywhere." Nick nodded, taking in the information before asking another question.
"Guys, what are we going to do about the rest of the tour?" The rest of the guys shrugged and looked at one another.
"We'll probably have to cancel some of the upcoming ones and reschedule them for later. To give you some time to recoup Nick," said Kevin. Nick nodded.
"Sounds good," he said before turning his attention back to the TV. All was quiet until Nick's stomach growled loudly. Everyone started giggling and laughing. "A little hungry Nick?" said Kevin, laughing at him.
"Yeah, a little," he said
laughing. "I haven't eaten anything today."
"Well, do you wanna go out and get something, order room service or have something delivered?"
Nick thought a minute before saying, "Let's go out."
"You sure Nick? You up to it?" said Kevin. Nick nodded and pulled himself up. He looked down
at what he was wearing. "But can ya give me time to change first?" he said, wrinkling his nose. He was wearing the clothes he'd had on yesterday. Everyone laughed a little and told him to go ahead. "Speaking of changing clothes, could you drop me and Chloe off at our houses so we can change?" said Stacie. She was wearing a shirt of Nick's (which was several sizes too big) and the jeans she'd worn yesterday.
"Sure, no problem." After Nick changed clothes, they headed towards the van and Chloe's 4Runner. They decided Nick, Kevin, Chloe and Stacie would take Chloe's car, with a bodyguard, to the girls' houses and the guys would meet them at the restaurant they'd decided to go to. "Hey Chloe," said Stacie. "Do our parents know anything that went on?" Chloe nodded.
"Yeah, they heard about some of the stuff on the news and I called them while you were asleep. They were pretty worried," she said. Stacie nodded as she climbed
into the back with Nick and one of the bodyguards.
"And I called them while you guys were getting ready and told them that we would be stopping by soon," added Kevin. He was sitting up front with Chloe. They waved to the rest of the guys as they headed towards the two girls' houses. They arrived there fairly quickly. First they dropped Stacie off at her house. Her mom was standing outside waiting for her. She climbed out and Nick started to follow her, but was stopped my Stacie's mom. "I don't think it would be a good idea for you to come in right now," she said with a slightly icy tone. "I think you've done enough for now." Nick and Stacie both looked confused and hurt.
"But Mom..." started Stacie.
"Just come on inside Stace," said Mrs. Redson, heading towards the house. Stacie looked completely confused.
"I'll see you
guys in a few," she said slowly before heading into her house.
"What was that all about?" said
Kevin, looking as confused as everyone else.
"Who knows," said Chloe. She slowly pulled up to her house and got out of the car. "You guys just wait here. I'll be back in a sec," she said before
heading into her house.
"What do you think that whole thing with Stacie's mom was about?" asked Kevin. Nick shrugged.
"I have no idea." Chloe was back out fairly quickly in fresh clothes. She climbed back in and headed back to Stacie's house. She was waiting on the steps and
looked pretty upset about something. She wordlessly climbed into the back with Nick. Nick put his arm around her, but she shrugged it off. Nick looked shocked. "What's wrong?"
Stacie shook her head and said, "Nothing, let's just go." Chloe cast a confused glance back at the two before heading towards the restaurant.
Everyone was silent the drive there. The rest of the guys and the bodyguard were waiting outside for them. "We were wondering when you guys would get here," said Howie as they walked up. Everyone managed some sort of smile. The rest of the guys sensed the tension. As they headed inside, Howie whispered to Chloe, "Hey, what went on?"
Chloe shrugged.
"I'm about as clueless as you. Stacie's mom wouldn't let Nick come in the house with Stace and then when Stace got back in the car, Nick tried to put his arm around her, but she just shrugged him off," she explained. Howie looked confused.
"Why would Stace do that?" he
said. Chloe shrugged again. "Got me." They followed the rest of the group into the restaurant and were quickly seated. Stacie and Nick sat next to each other, but neither looked comfortable next
to each other. Everyone ordered their food and an uncomfortable silence settled over the group. After a few minutes of trying to make small talk their food arrived, to everyone's relief. Everyone dug into their food and all was silent except their chewing. Stacie was about to take a bite of her food when she looked up and went as pale as a ghost. "Stace, what's wrong?" said Chloe, noticing her expression.
"I-I-I-I..." She couldn't get whatever it was out. Nick looked over at where she was staring and went pale himself.
"What is it?" said Kevin.
"It's the guy," said Nick.
Everyone whipped around and then saw the man staring at them. Realizing he'd been noticed, he jumped up to run out. But the bodyguards, realizing who he was, were too fast and caught him
as he was about to go out the door. He immediately began shouting in Russian. This attracted everyone's attention. The guys looked at Chloe for what the guys was saying, but Stacie beat her
to interpreting it.
"He's saying he's innocent, that he didn't do anything." She noticed the look on the guys faces. "I took the class with Chloe," she explained. She looked about ready to start crying again. Nick came over and wrapped his arms around her as she started to cry. This time, she didn't pull away. The police had been phoned and were now arriving and arresting the guy.
Everyone filed outside, the bodyguards in front and behind them. They all sat outside in the van, comforting Stacie and Nick. After a few minutes, Stacie stopped crying. She realized she was in Nick's arms and immediately pulled away. He looked shocked. "What is it? Why can't I touch you?" he asked confused. Stacie looked very upset.
"I'm sorry. It's just that my mom says I shouldn't see you anymore. She thinks the whole thing is your fault. But it's not. I went with the guy too. But she doesn't seem to see it that way," she explained. She started to cry again. Nick looked like he was in a state of shock.
"She thinks that?" he said. Stacie nodded.
"She told me that when I went in the house. The only reason she let me come eat with you guys was because Chloe was going," she said, still crying. Nick simply hugged her and held her. She made no attempt to pull away. He looked at everyone else, still looking hurt. The question in everyone's mind was, 'What's going to happen now?'
