A new chapter?
In january 1998 there were some gigs at their hometown in W.Va. (I'm still waiting for the report some of you promised me. But then again, I promised to update these pages in april... and now it's september). And then it became quieter and quieter. The guys were working on a new deal and a new record. In april came the news, that the project is called NINO BROWN (and not El Nino, like the rumors said for a long long time). Most important, the name of JOHN GARCIA as a vocalist pops up: Karma To Burn + John Garcia = Nino Brown. Take a detour to the Nino Brown page, as long as it's still on-line... Dickie himself stated: "Next week Karma To Burn begins recording an entire record with John Garcia. It will be out on Music For Nations and is currently titled "Nino Brown". Karma To Burn will be playing in Europe soon with John and without him. We will also be recording a soundtrack (the entire thing) and then release it as an entirely instrumental record. But a try-out tour in the northeast of the US was cancelled, due to some unwillingness in John Garcia's management (again: this is just a rumor). In june I got 3 messages telling me that Karma To Burn's drummer CHUCK NICHOLAS had left the band. Or was kicked out. The effect was the same. First there was rumor that Chuck went down to Texas to meet up with some ol' friends, but latest new is that he probably will re-join CHUM. K2B's new drummer is ROB OSWALD and he's from Baltimore. Alegedly the band has moved to Baltimore as well. In september 1998, the project with John Garcia was cancelled. But K2B replied with a brand new EP on CD, with 4 songs (30, 33, 32, 20) that they only sell at live concerts. And there were quite some of those during november and december. Freebird Records wanted to release this EP (in a different running order) for Europe and its on-line store, but somehow their agent thought differently. In the mean time, JIVE RECORDS has been named to release the new album, that's been scheduled for april 1999. "It should be out in early spring of 99. All new songs... NO VOCALS" according to guitarist Will. Also from his mouth: "We just became a part of Rave Booking. From what I'm told (but as the guitar player I'm always the last to know) we will be hitting some uncharted territory like the west coast." In february 1999 K2B toured the midwest with Queens Of The Stone Age. Apparently, Will broke his leg during the recording of the new album. How that happened still is a mystery... A lot of alcohol and a bit of ice were involved... The most recent news (say the last 6 months) is still on the news page and will be transferred to a new biography chapter around christmas or something... |
