MeteorCity: "Thanks for taking this time, man.
We're just basically going to put a few things up on the site
if you don't mind, like, "We recently talked to John Garcia,
and he had this stuff to say..."
John Garcia: "Yeah, you know, you can tell everybody that I
hate record companies right now, I'm fucking disgusted and
mortified by record companies right now. It's just really,
really a shame that musicians are subjected to shit like that,
to money hungry motherfuckers. And its a shame, because there's
so many good musicians out there, who just aren't the taste of
the fucking month, you know?"
MC: "So should I understand that things are not going
well with Red Ant?"
JG: "Well, the deal with them is that they have 6 days to
respond on the Unida option, and if they don't do anything
then they're in breach of contract and I'm out of there.
But the other shit is that I owe them money, so on this Karma
To Burn project that I want to do, I had to sign shit saying
that I make no money, Red Ant gets all my royalties, and I
still want to do it 'cause I've wanted to do something with
those fuckers forever. And then there was some shit with Music
For Nations, Karma To Burn's label, but it's worked out. It
was like, they said, okay, get Red Ant to release you and
we'll do it, so I paid for fucking legal fees out of my own
pocket, and then they say, well, we want more of a committment
than just one album. Which is fine for them to want, maybe me
and the band may want that too, but it's for us to decide, not
the label... but they backed off on that, and that project is
finally going to happen."
MC: "So when will you and Karma To Burn start recording, and
when do you figure something will be ready to release?"
JG: "Basically right now I'm waiting for Red Ant to send the
papers over to my lawyer, it's not that complicated. hey have
treated me with a lot of disrespect, and that is one of the
reasons why it's taking so long, I place full blame on them
and I'm not afraid to do that. My lawyer talks to their
lawyers, and he says, we just need to draw something up
legally that says I'm out of the red tape, or else I can't do
shit. That's it, it's pretty simple, there's no major story
behind it."
MC: "But once that's done, you guys are ready to go in really
soon?"
Garcia: "We're going to go to New York, or West Virginia, cut
some demos, and see how they turn out, get familiar. 'Cause
we're going in to do something that myself and Karma have always
wanted to do, and it's because of a lot of record company
bullshit that it hasn't had a chance to happen, so both parties
are eagerly awaiting the deal. One way or another it's gonna
happen, unless one of us dies."
MC: "Are you going to demo that stuff for their label, Music For
Nations? Because they have no distribution in America, do they?"
JG: "No, this was something that really wasn't even going to be
released in America. Sure, there might be imports, but as far as
how many, I don't know, but it was going to be exclusively for
Europe."
MC: "Hmm, well, we'll carry it, at least."
