Danzig guide

RATINGS:

DANZIG:

1.DANZIG (GOOD) Released in 1988, this album replaces the usual stupid "Satanic" ploys found in most "Devil" rock with intelligence and true musical ability. Glenn Danzig's lyrics are filled with the usual heavy metal malevolence, yet these lyrics seem much more serious. Indeed, Glenn Danzig actually does take his Satanic and malevolent subject matter seriously, drawing from such cerebral sources as Paradise Lost. Along with the ingenious lyrics, Danzig also provides great music to complement it. With a musical style much like that of Metallica, Danzig delivers its evil message very skillfully. "Twist of Cain," "Soul on Fire," and "Am I Demon" reveal the considerable talents of this band.

2.DANZIG 2: LUCIFUGE (EXCELLENT) Released in 1990, Lucifuge follows the same style as the first album except that the intensity is maintained throughout the entire album. Plus, this album shows more range. The Evil Elvis, Glenn Danzig, also shows that he is capable more subdued vocals along with his usual furious ones. This album also gives a nice mix of metal and blues. It also deftly infuses electric and acoustic sounds into one single harmonious unit. "Long Way Back fro Hell" and "Devil's Plaything" are two especially accomplished pieces.

3.DANZIG 3: HOW THE GODS KILL (EXCELLENT) Released in 1992, this album picks up right where the last album left off. It contains all the complexity, range, and intensity of Danzig 2. "How the Gods Kill," "Dirty Black Summer," and "Do You Wear the Mark" are three especially exceptional offerings.

4.THRALL-DEMONSWEATLIVE (GOOD) Released in 1993, this album presents two new songs, a cover of Elvis's "Trouble," and four live songs. The two new songs are called "It's Coming Down" and "The Violet Fire." Both of these songs are in the same style as the songs on previous albums.

5.DANZIG 4 (GOOD) Released in 1994, this album is more accessible. Much of the heaviness and malevolence of the prior albums was toned down in order to appeal to a larger audience. With Danzig however, no album is ever sweet and cuddly. While much of the trademark intensity of the previous albums is presented more subtly here, this album still contains the dark, violent themes that old fans expect. "Little Whip," "Can't Speak," "Until You Call on the Dark," and "Son of the Morning Star" are the best songs on the album.

6.DANZIG 5: BLACKACIDEVIL (POOR) Released in 1996, blackacidevil marks a change in Danzig's sound. Influenced by the work of Nine Inch Nails, the songs on Danzig 5 provide a less than spectacular imitation of this style. Danzig covers Black Sabbath's "Hand of Doom" on this album. "Sacrifice" is probably the only high quality song here.

7.BLACK ARIA (GLENN DANZIG SOLO) (GOOD) Released in 1992, Black Aria is a solo effort by Glenn Danzig. This album is an attempt at something completely different from heavy metal. Black Aria is a classical album. It contains several dirges and other dark pieces. This Album actually reached Number One on Billboard's Classical album chart! Glenn Danzig appears to be a man of many talents. Even though I'm not a fan of classical music, this album comes off as very dark and sinister. It is actually quite enjoyable.
