GUNS 'N' ROSES:
1.APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION (EXCELLENT) Released in 1987, this album is one of the greatest rock albums of the
1980s. The songs on here are absolutely stunning. They range from the sweet
sounds of "Sweet Child o' Mine" to the terrifyingly brutal sounds of "Welcome to the
Jungle." Not only are the tunes wide in range, but the lyrics and style are also of a high order.
The lyrics of "It's So Easy" are wonderfully sarcastic. "Mr. Brownstone" and "My Michelle" both give a dark description of rock decadence. The
structure and style of "Paradise City" are ingenious. Some people may be turned off,
however, by the misogyny and xenophobic lyrics found on this album.
2.GNR LIES (FAIR) Released in 1988, GNR Lies combines three new songs, four songs recorded in
1986, and an acoustic version of "You're Crazy." The sexist and xenophobic lyrics
continue on this album. Unfortunately, the music isn't as strong on this album. Songs
like "Used to Love Her" and "One in a Million" stirred up a lot of controversy for the
band. Through all the controversy and substandard music, "Patience" and the acoustic
"You're Crazy" stand out as the best two offerings on this album.
3.USE YOUR ILLUSIONS 1 (FAIR) Released in 1991, this long awaited album was released simultaneously with Use
Your Illusion 2. Both albums were huge commercial successes, but the overall quality of
these albums was not as high as that of the first album. Use Your Illusions 1 contains a
few extraordinary songs and several average ones. Three of the finest tunes on this album
are "November Rain," "The Garden," and "Coma."
4.USE YOUR ILLUSIONS 2 (FAIR) Released in 1991, this album, like its counterpart, was a huge commercial
success, but with only a few exceptional songs to its credit. "Civil War," "Pretty Tied
Up," "Locomotive," and "Estranged" are the four songs which stand out on this album.
5.THE SPAGHETTI INCIDENT? (POOR) Released in 1993, this horrible album was a collection of punk cover songs. It is basically a low quality album and should generally be avoided.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
1. Steven Adler was the drummer for Guns 'n' Roses until he was kicked out of the band in 1990 for drug problems.
2. Eagles drummer Don Henley filled in for Adler at when GNR performed at the American Music Awards in 1989.
3. Guns 'n' Roses contributed a cover of the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy for the Devil" for the Interview with the Vampire soundtrack.
