The Famed 1,4,5's
in a rare appearance at Emo's on March 12th.
(Right before I ducked out of town to avoid SXSW and visit my good buddy Daisun in Chicago, I was lucky enough to attend an entertaining show by the 1,4,5's. Here's how the show looked from my perspective.)
I had planned on going to a party with Jeff, but then I found out that the 1,4,5's were playing at Emo's. It's a rare treat to see Gavin and Travis trade the make-up and suits that they normally wear (when they're playing with The Kiss Offs that is) and join up with Anna and Dean (both moved out of Austin, I hear) to wear colorful crash helmets and windbreakers as they bless us with some of the cutest garage tunes in the country.
My roommate's pal Maicool* picked us up and we headed over to Blonka's*, where a small crew of student radio delinquents were finishing off a bottle of Jack. The fact that we had forgotten to bring cola to mix with the whiskey didn't keep anyone from drinking copious amounts of the stuff. We were feeling pretty fuzzy and warm by the time 10:30 rolled around and we left for 6th Street.
The parking was impossible as usual on a friday night, but Miacool isn't a quitter. He noticed a space that was only blocked by the shattered remains of a television set, so he proved the practicality of owning a sports utility vehicle by driving over the mess and securing a prime parking spot only a couple of blocks from Emo's.
The show was great. You should have been there. You never know, it could have been the last 1,4,5's reunion show ever.
Dean rocks, plain and simple
Travis Higdon, Peek-a-Boo Industries CEO and rock'n'roller
Anna on drums
Gavin Scott and his lovely VOX
Gratuitous trippy photo
Whew! What a night. The End...time for your friends to drag your staggering frame to the car.
Why don't you get your drunken punk butt home
or you can go see a real 1,4,5's page
