THE
MARTINI ART
GALLERY
by
Dave "Diavo" Voltaggio
Art work inspired by martinis, all created from scratch by Yours Truly. Everything is thumb-nailed, so just click on a pic to see the full version. Make sure your browser isn't shrinking the pics to fit on screen; zoom out on those larger pictures to see the maximized pic and get all the details.
4.4.05 -- "Para-dice Lounge & Casino" My first
attempt at scanning my own line art and cel shading it. The main objects
are purposely cartoony and I 'Shopped up the background.
1.22.05 -- "Deviant Olives" Inspired by a conversation with Cat. A
gang of punk olives and their gangster leader, I think.
11.24.04 -- "Mr. Snowmiser" The evil snowman I
designed years ago for a comic book for French class, now created in Photoshop.
He freezes whatever he touches, even his drink!
"They call me snowmiser / Whatever I touch / Turns to snow in my clutch /
I'm too much!" [Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, "Mr. Heatmiser"]
11.7.04 -- "Explode-in-3" An olive bomb (cherry bomb relation?) is dropped in and explodes in a dark room.
10.28.04 -- "The Blue Room" Replica from my memory of a special room at the 9:30 Club in DC. The quote has double meaning: 1) Creatively he says "I just got here!" but no he hasn't -- look at all the drinks he's had! 2) The quote is from Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, and that's who I saw at the 9:30 Club that night. (Notice the cool light behind a metal screen, the cushion, the reflective metal table like at UMBC, and glow-in-the-dark stars)
10.26.04 -- "Invisible Man's Martini" A Halloween themed scene, with background elements inspired from The Nightmare Before Christmas. The smoke didn't scan well -- there are 3 skulls rising from it as well as a claw, you can see his lips too. Colored pencils & gel ink, one evening. (Notice the martini eyes of the jack o' lantern, the green stem (double meaning), the reflection in the shades, the handcuffs on the Nm.B.C. cat (!) and the swizzle stick fading into the blood/lava)
10.24.04 -- "...Cause the power you're supplin', it's electrifyin'!" Batteries, unknown conductive liquid, and a metal shaker nearby: bzzzzap! Art deco scene feel.
10.23.04 -- "Gloomy, Depressed Martini" A classic scene -- spot lit in the rain. Yet almost like a comic. Steep learning curve on this one: brick walls, rain, cement, spot lighting oh my! Why's he depressed? Because A) he's all alone, B) he's diluted in the rain, C) his girl didn't call, D) he drank too much -- pick one! (Notice the 5 o'clock shadow on the glass, the rainy sidewalk, the imperfections of the bricks, and how the spot light grabs your eyes' attention and won't let go.)
`|>--| 10.24.04 -- "ASCII Marty" Hey, it's art! Don't think just because it's a quote, a pipe, a greater-than sign, two dashes and another pipe means it's not art! The genius is in it's simplicity.
10.20.04 -- "Swank Star Pour Martini" More 'martini art': retro stars poured from the shaker into the glass; plus a club, heart, spade, and a diamond in there for garnish. Rocket swizzle stick coming to skewer the spade! (Notice the glassiness of the martini glass, as well as the reflection.)
10.19.04 -- "Checkered Martini Overfloweth" A neat martini with black & white checkered blocks stroked in red to represent a liquid, and 2 bubbles of similar theme.
