Studio Notes & Comments:Another of Jimmy's catchy, 60s-sounding numbers. Don't worry 'though all you fans out there(?!), we are not in danger of developing a "sound" and we will probably start work on a death metal/brass band hybrid number very soon :-) While similar in style to our earlier songs in this mode (e.g., "If You Wanna See Me Smile"), there were some "firsts" on this one with regard to our recording history. This was the first song on which we took advantage of the improved sound quality offered by my new Laney Tube Fusion TF200 65W amp. The main (clean) rhythm guitar was recorded through the amp and miked into the 4-track (via the compressor of course!). The results were quite excellent, as the guitar sound had a much "bouncier", percussive and dynamic feel to it compared to earlier recordings, where clean rhythm guitar tracks were recorded direct into the 4-track, or via the Digitech pre-amp. Jimmy also made a rare appearance on the ivories! While I played the main organ chord backing for the song, Jimmy played the lead keyboard solo (as a change from the guitar taking centre stage). This instrumental break was played over a repeated 4-chord sequence, but Jimmy had the great idea of playing a purely ascending keyboard melody line, making it sound more like an ascending 8 chord sequence. It really works well! This song also marked the recording debut of my Ibanez SR506 six-string bass.(p.s. the vocals were re-recorded in November '99 using our new Audio-Technica MB4000C condenser microphone)
