Da American Standard

Controversy - blessing or curse? If you're Southern California's best hardcore/funk/rap group this side of...ummm...never mind, I can't go through with this. But their new album American Standard is a great sequel to last years Disgruntled, so give 'em a chance.

FIRST OFF...WHAT'S UP WITH THE NEW ALBUM?
The album has been delayed due to some artwork and company conflicts with the manufacturer, so we at this time don't have any answers as far as release dates. Anyone with questions can call Alarma at 714.477.9001

LOT OF CONTROVERSY REGARDING THE ALBUM COVER (URINAL)...WHAT ARE YOUR FEELINGS ON THIS?
The Urinal cover will not be used, to kill the controversy I guess.

HOW WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH MIKE KNOTT?
It was great! He is a very cool guy and a blast to work with. A very relaxed, kind of "no stress" environment.

YOU'VE BEEN CALLED THE CHRISTIAN RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE OR THE CHRISTIAN 311... THOUGHTS ON THAT?
We're not the Christian anything! I don't mean to say that we don't believe in Jesus but to say we're a "Christian equivalent" is absurd to us. We're four musicians making good music that is from our heart. Those other bands are just that, "other bands."

"DISGRUNTLED" GOT YOU A DEDICATED FAN BASE...ON THIS NEW ALBUM, ARE YOU TRYING TO WIN NEW FANS OR KEEP THE OLD ONES?
We always want to keep the fans we have but at the same time you can't grow without "growth," so yeah we're trying to pick up new fans all the time.

WHAT SONGS ON THE NEW ALBUM ARE YOUR FAVORITES?
Pushing, Salt Circles, American Standard and Electric Starter are four that really stand out for me, All the songs are great but those I think for me are my favs. Deprived and Touched are really cool to!

ANY TOUR PLANS?
Well we did have plans for a tour but The Davdon Artist agency did not have time to book one for us. (Too busy booking other bands I guess. LOL!!) We are trying to work some things out with 7Ball for Spring 98 and some other avenues but it's all up in the air right now. HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THIS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SKA TREND THAT'S GETTING BIGGER?
Like with all music styles they come and go in cycles. It's cool I guess, I mean I don't dislike Ska or anything like that but...

MAIN INFLUENCES?
Anything and everything. It's not just music that influences what we do and who we are on and off stage, but "life" in general. Musically it would be a lot of different styles ranging from say Hip-Hop to Techno to Heavy Metal to GrindCore to Disco. We don't really have a "main" set of influences; the music just happens sometimes!

DO YOU CONSIDER YOURSELVES HIP HOP TO A CERTAIN EXTENT?
Tedd started out doing Hip-Hop and we all grew up listening to it. It's a big part of what we do aside from the aggressiveness but it's very evident, our roots in Hip-Hop.
