Well, this is kind of a boring story, but for some reason this is the first thing everyone always asks us, which is cool, just unexpected. Anyways, the three other members of the band used to be in another band, Mr. i. The other guitar player left, and I joined the band, so we just felt like it was a whole new thing, and needed a new name. So we went through a few that we didn't like, and finally Sublime needed one so they could start doing some press for us, so this one was suggested, and kind of stuck because we felt like it described our sound a little bit.

HOW DID YOU HOOK UP WITH SUBLIME RECORDS?

We first decided to go record the album with hopes of either attracting a label, or maybe releasing it on our own. So we finished it, and hadn't even really sent out very many, I think only three or four, when we got hooked up with Bob Wohler of Sublime through a mutual friend. He liked it and we just worked out the contract and everything pretty much right after that.

A LOT OF YOUR LYRICS ARE REALLY HARD TO FIGURE OUT THE FIRST TIME AROUND...WHERE DO YOU GET THE INSPIRATION?

Doug writes all of the lyrics, and he's currently unavailable for comment... but I do know he just sort of carries them around with him for awhile, and they deal with things he's thinking about, or people we know, or just things happening. A couple of them were inspired by the music, but mostly they are things he has on his mind.

HOW WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH STEVE HINDALONG? working with Steve was great, and we give just as much credit to Chris Colbert and Skye for inspiring us with the sounds they helped to create. Steve is just such a creative, melodic person, and it was great to be around him. There's something cool to be found in any project they work on, regardless of the style, so it was just great to have our songs worked on by them.

CRITICS HAVE COMPARED LOVELY TO THE CHOIR'S CIRCLE SLIDE...AGREE/DISAGREE AND WHY?

Well I know Doug and Paul (the bass player) are huge fans of that album, so we definitely take it as a compliment (but I didn't know any critics had even heard our album...). I think I can see similarities in mood, and a few of the sounds, but i'd have to say that Circle Slide is just a "bigger" album in theme and certainly impact. I don't know...I just have a hard time really making comparisons, so I think it's cool to hear about any similarities anyone else may hear.

WHAT SONG(S) ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF? My personal favorite song is "Worn". It's just a simple little song that we wrote in just one night, and was probably the one we recorded the fastest. I think band favorites are probably "Glisten" and "Evergreen". "Mist" was another spontaneous song. I really like the songs that seem to come quickly without too much thought.

FAVORITE BANDS?

There's a lot of differences in the band, but we all like U2, Mercury by The Prayer Chain as well as the new Choir album Free Flying Soul. Radiohead is another favorite. I really like The Lassie Foundation, and I've been listening to Underworld, the new Spiritualized album, everything Tricky's been doing, The Verve, Slowdive...lots of stuff.

"CHRISTIAN ROCK MUSIC" - OUTDATED TERM OR NOT? DISCUSS.

I'm not sure it's outdated. Just sort of abused, and not really a very powerful term. I mean, I'm sure there are bands it describes, but it's just thrown at so many bands, with so many negative connotations such as a lack of creativity, lame lyrics, 80's guitars that it doesn't seem to be useful anymore. It's just kind of a marketing tool. I think Mike Pritzl of the Violet Burning said that if you're a baker you don't get asked if you're a Christian baker, but for some reason people ask bands that question. I've never really thought of us as a Christian Rock Music band. We're just a band of Christians, and we make the music that God has put on our hearts, so naturally it's Christian in theme and we hope it's glorifying to Him.

It's just a tough issue, because band's don't want to be misunderstood, but at the same time they don't want to be pigeonholed. I think the world would be a better place if marketers and writers could come up with more creative ways to do their jobs.

DO YOU LIKE TOURING?

Well, we have yet to do a whole lot of touring, but the shows we've played were a lot of fun. It's nice to finally meet some people who maybe have heard our record, and connected in some way.
