News for February 26, 1998
- The Smashing Pumpkins swiped the award for Best Hard Rock Performance for the second consecutive year at the 1998 Grammy Awards held yesterday night. The band won the award for the song The End is the Beginning is the End, which can be found on the Batman and Robin soundtrack. I am not sure what the band was up against for the award, because the presentation wasn't aired. I am pretty surprised that they received the award considering the fact that the song did not do very good on the charts here in Canada. Congratulations to the band!
- In other news, the Smashing Pumpkins are being sued by Virgin Records. I am not sure of the details, but apparently the record company is angry that the band has only recorded 3 of the guaranteed 7 albums and now wants to the end the contract. I don't blame Virgin Records. Who would want to let a band like the Pumpkins get away? Again, I'm not sure, but this is my understanding of the situation.
- This just in (literally):The name of the new album will be Adore. The album will feature 14 tracks (I know, we all want another double album). It is scheduled to be released at the end of May. Part of the reason for the long wait for a new album is due to the problems between the band and Virgin Records (see above).
